The FIT identity cardproves that the person to whom it is issued is a member of a national association of translators, interpretersand terminologists and supports the objectives and the role of the International Federation of Translators onthe world stage.Recent changeThe FIT Council recently decided to set a single period of validity for all holders of FIT ID cards from the nextStatutory Congress, which takes place in August 2011, and to increase this period from two years to six years. With immediate effect, all new identity cards will be valid until the Congress held in 2017. This period ofvalidity will not change except during the year preceding the 2017 Congress. The fee for a new card will beUS$30 or €25. During the transition, the validity of all cards that are due to expire before August 2011 isautomatically extended to the next Statutory Congress.Impact of the new procedure on the renewal of identity cardsPlease note that with the setting of a single period of validity the system of issuing renewal stickers every twoyears will be abandoned. With immediate effect, to renew your card you will have to provide your associationwith a new photo as well as a form indicating at least your name and current ID card number and pay the feeof US$30 or €25 plus any additional fee set by your association. Please note that no further two-year renewals(US$10/€8) will be possible after July 2010.Impact of relocation of the FIT Secretariat on the production of new identity cardsAs you are aware, the Secretariat will be moving in the near future and for practical and operational reasonsFIT will not produce any identity cards during the months of September, October and November 2010.Method for obtaining a FIT identity card(Follow the same steps for renewing your card)Translators, interpreters and terminologists who wish to obtain a FIT identity card must be members in goodstanding of a national association that is a FIT member and must contact their association to check whetherthey support the FIT ID card programme.Note: FIT ID card-holders must at all times work through their local association in order to request or renew aFIT identity card. Forms, photos and payments must be forwarded by the FIT member association.1

Steps to be followed:1. Complete an application form (available online).2. Submit the form to your association together with your payment of US$30 or €25 plus any feescharged by your association and your photograph (35 mm X 43 mm).3.
