NOSSA ALPINE SKI REPORT <strong>2013</strong> Convener: Dan Bartolucci, Marymount Academy Date: Site: Financial Report: Results: OFSAA: Convener Concerns: Recommendations: Wed, Feb 13 th Adanac Ski Hill Anticipated total expenses -‐ $ 1,575.00 Awaiting final invoice from Adanac Ski Club Only other expense coffee & muffins for coaches, volunteers http://sdssaa.rainbowschools.ca/pages/alpskiresult13.pdf Ward Kyle (Lockerby) – gold (level I giant slalom) Lockerby girls – bronze (level II girls giant slalom) Two additional team fourth place finishes 1) Lack of coaches at the OFSAA organization meeting that immediately follows the NOSSA awards presentation. 2) Difficulty gathering information for OFSAA racers that had community coaches. 3) Tallying of overall results took too long. It was difficult to apply the new timing/results system to our own method of applying points and determining individual/team results. 1) Ensure that all coaches who have athletes attending OFSAA are present at the post-‐NOSSA coaches meeting. 2) Develop a template that will make it easier for Dave to transfer results from the new timing system to the way in which the SDSSAA results are tallied. 3) Discuss with all coaches attending OFSAA the idea of staying on the Day 2 evening at Blue Mountain in order to take the pressure off of the morning. It would also allow SDSSAA athletes to attend the Day 2 awards ceremony. 4) Investigate the possible training of interested SDSSAA Alpine coaches for Level 1 race instructor certification.

NOSSA GOLF <strong>2012</strong> Wednesday Sept 26, <strong>2012</strong> SUMMARY LOCATION: North Bay, Osprey Links Golf Course (par 71) CONVENOR: Mark Hewitt (WFSS) mark.hewitt@nearnorthschools .ca 63 players participated in this event INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONS BOYS GIRLS BOYS TEAM CHAMPIONS NICK QUESNEL (72) LOCKERBY -‐ SDSSA JENNIFER SHEEHAN (96) SJSH -‐ NDA -‐ Lockerby – SDSSA The following boy’s team has qualified to represent NOSSA at OFSSA NICK QUESNEL -‐ 72 JASON PICCO -‐ 77 JAKE SANTI -‐ 81 JORDANO CAZZOLA – 85 The two low scores who were not part of the winning team and have also qualified to attend OFSSA are: FRANK ANZIL – St. Benedicts -‐77 (SDSSA) MIKE GORDA –WFSS -‐77 (NDA) (The above players were determined in a play-‐off format which lasted 2 holes)

The Boy’s Golf Banner was presented to Lockerby and all members of that team were presented with medals. Medals were also presented to the individual qualifiers to OFSSA GIRLS TEAM CHAMPIONS (As there was no school meeting the requirements of OFSSA, the following girls will form a team and have qualified to represent NOSSA at the OFSSA event ). The NOSSA girl’s team banner was presented to SJSH, and medals were presented to the following NOSSA team members: JENNIFER SHEEHAN (96) –SJSH (NDA) JAIMEE REYNOLDS (102) –SJSH (NDA) ELLISSA BERTUZZI (104) –Lively (SDSSA) DANIKA BEAUDRY (105) – ESFC (NDA) STEPHANIE DUPUIS (106) –ESFC (NDA) LAUREN KYLE (107) – St. Benedicts (SDSSA) -‐ all other girl participants exceeded the score of 110 COACHES MEETING -‐ several items of concern were discussed: It was agreed by the majority present that these should be presented and adopted into the constitution regarding golf playing regulations at a future assembly.

-‐ A motion presented by Richard Lachance (Northern) and seconded by Rob Zenatta (St. Charles) addressed the need to make sure that all participating teams register on-‐site no less than one hour before tee-‐time. -‐ There was some discussion around the problem of “no-shows” on the day of the tournament. -‐ There was shared concern about the communication between local conveners, (at the district level) and the NOSSA convener. On the day of the event some of the listed entrants are not present. (This was the case today and has been in the past) -‐ A motion was introduced by Mark Hewitt (WFSS) and seconded by Richard Lachance (Northern) that if a district convener sends a list of participants to the convener and a team or individual does not show up, their entry fee will be charged to that school, and in addition a final list of participants should be in the hands of the NOSSA convener no less than 48 hrs before the NOSSA event(exceptions only for exceptional circumstances like a local rainout in a qualifying event). There was some discussion around the idea of having a post determinant meeting after a local event to ensure everyone knows who has qualified to move on to the next level, and to address each schools commitment to attending that next event. -‐ This was carried by a majority of those in attendance. -‐ (it was noted that this seems to be a reoccurring problem especially with golf). -‐ A motion was presented by Rob Zenatta (St. Charles) and seconded by Richard Lachance (Northern) indicating all schools must be represented and supervised by a coach or staff member at each event. If a participant is to be

supervised by another individual, there must be signed consent from that schools principal. -‐ This was passed by those present. -‐ (at today’s event there were some students who traveled without a supervisor from their school present) -‐ The meeting was adjourned. NOSSA BOYS PLAYING REGULATIONS-‐Page 24 Boys Volleyball Refer to section ’Fewer than 4 entries:’ Change part 4 from: ‘When a 3-‐team schedule is necessary, longer matches than 2 of 3 are suggested.’ To: When a 3-‐team schedule is necessary, round robin matches be 2 of 3 and the final match be 3 of 5. Rationale: Most leagues use 3 of 5 matches, therefore so should a NOSSA final. Current rule (above) needs to be ‘firmed up’. Mover: Sean Mullan (WSS) Seconder: Dez Forget (CSS) NOSSA BOYS PLAYING REGULATIONS-‐Page 24 Boys Volleyball Refer to section ’Fewer than 4 entries:’ Add #5. When a 2-‐team schedule is necessary, a 3 of 5 match (final) be played. Rationale: Same as above. Currently there is nothing in the Constitution dealing with a 2 team championship. At the senior level, for the past 2 years there have been only 2 AAA schools competing at NOSSA. When a berth at OFSAA is at stake, and it is a single match, a 3 of 5 is the best way of determining who should represent the region. Mover: Sean Mullan (WSS) Seconder: Dez Forget (CSS)
