December 2012November MeetingThe November meeting was hosted by Jim and BonnieSchneider, the owners of the Crooked Creek Railroadlocated in Osage Beach MO. Jim and Bonnie startedbuilding the CCRR about three years ago. They havemade good use of a confined space with lots of trackand a largewaterfeature. Thetrack is all stainless steel and consists of twoseparate tracks, an outside figure eight track with adog bone inner track, tied together with a crossover. This allows two trains to run at the same timewithout worry of them getting together. There aremany great plants and buildings creating some greatrealistic looking photos. When surveying the layout, one can see that they have put a lot of thought, time, and hard work into the CCRR.THANK YOU AND A GREAT JOB JIM AND BONNIE!1

However, hydrocal hard shell canbe mixed with putty for inside layouts. Some folks mayremember the Christmas table diorama ground work and rockformations. These were created with the DURHRAM waterputty. DURHRAM water putty is a powder that’s mixed withwater and dries hard as a rock. It is great for detailing rockstogether.Start with two inch thick piece of pink or blue builder’s foam.Carve the foam in the shape of a rock formation to be attachedto the side of a mountain. The carved scenery shape should be held so you canwork face up and level because the mixture has to brushed or pored onhorizontally. The DURHRAM water putty has to be fluid enough to flow. After it hashardened, visualize where it will be placed to the vertical mountainor hill and use a little more putty to attach. Small rocks and rockformations can be dipped into a pan of putty and laid aside toharden. Remember, toothpicks and wooden skewers will behelpful as well as wetting the foam mountain wall. The mountainbase and ground work height can be built up by stacking the twoinch thick foam and holding it together with wooden skewers. Justremember, you work horizontally with the putty at first. As theputty dries it will reach a leather-hard stage. At this point, you cancarve in strata, cracks, veins and other textures. THANK YOU ANDA GREAT JOB KEITH!4

Reason for SuccessBy Glen CarlisleDecember is here and with 2012 coming to an end the Ozark Garden Railway Society is about to finishanother chapter in its history. It all began just a few years ago with two couples, Bob and Jane Newquist,Joe and Phyllis Lavanti, getting together with a shared vision. It was a dream of hobbyist comingtogether to discuss and help one another with a common interest. Thus, the Ozark Garden RailwaySociety was born. Just a few years later, the OGRS has grown to around sixty-eight members. What has made the vision of the four founding members grow into the OGRS that we now know? Theamount of success that any organization can achieve is based how much its members are willing to giveto it. The OGRS has been fortunate to have members that are committed to its success. It has beenblessed with members that are willing to hold office, to host meetings, to give clinics, to offer their helpand knowledge, or just to share something that they have learned. No matter how large or small of apart one may take in the club, it all adds up to success. With the New Year right around the corner, OGRS is about to start a new chapter in its history. Becauseof all the members that belong to the OGRS, I do believe that the chapter that will be written in 2013will be even a bigger success than 2012.OGRS OFFICERSPresident: Dennis Rayon denray4046@yahoo.comVice President: Tom DeGeere tdegeere@mediacombb.netSecretary: Glen Carlisle carlisle02@sbcglobal.netTreasurer: Trish Sharpensteen psharpensteen@hotmail.comMembership Chairman: Bob Eggleston egglestons@mchsi.comHistorian: Bob Newquist bobnjanemo@aol.com5
