IMPORTANT INFORMATIONWelcome towheelie binsRecyclingmade simpleYour old collection dayand/or time may changeon the new system

Your new waste and recycling service starts soon. We’velistened to your concerns about the new service andhave made changes as a result. One of the big changeswas to introduce a weekly food waste collection service aswell as two wheelie bins. We’re changing the system so we can:•Give 100% of homes a recycling collection service.•Increase recycling and reduce waste going to landfill.•Avoid increasing landfill costs.•Reduce problems with sack collection – littering from ripped sacksand injuries to collection crews.Collections•Have a look at the calendar, in your pack, for further informationon which bin to put out which week.•To help you keep track of your bin, it would be great if you couldput your house name or number on the stickers in this pack andstick them on the back of your bins.•Bins need to be out by 7am on the day of collection at the frontedge of your property.•When bins are put out please make sure the lid is closed and all thewaste or recycling is in the bins. We can’t take any waste that is notin the bins. Please note that your time and/or day of collection will probablychange.

How the system worksGreen week: RecyclingGREEN BIN•This bin replaces your purple and clear sacks and your glass box.•A full list if things you can recycle is on the calendar and on top ofthe bin.•PLEASE PUT RECYCLING IN LOOSE - NO SACKS, NO TEXTILES.FOOD WASTE BINPAPERBOTTLESCANSGLASS+Green recycling wheelie bin + food waste bin(not the caddy)•This bin is for any food waste including meat, fish and bones. If youdon’t home compost, vegetable peelings, tea bags and eggshellscan go in too.•The food waste caddy can be lined using newspaper or fullycompostable / degradable liners (marked with BSEN 13432). Theseare made of paper or cornstarch and are available from localshops and most supermarkets. You don’t have to use them andsome people prefer to use nothing at all. Your food waste caddy isdishwasher proof. PLEASE DO NOT LINE IT WITH PLASTIC BAGS.•On the green week, your food waste is collected by a differentvehicle and will be collected at a different time to your wheelie bin.FOOD

Grey week: LandfillANYTHINGTHATCANNOT BERECYCLED+Non-recycling grey wheelie bin + food waste bin*GREY BIN•This bin replaces your black sacks.•Anything that is left over after you have recycled everything youcan, will go to landfill.•Waste in the grey bin can go in sacks or carrier bags.•No garden waste, no hot ashes, no liquids, no needles.• On grey weeks your food waste will be collected with your refuseand will go to landfill.*Due to the significant cost of collecting food waste separately,we’re really sorry but we can only compost food waste on greenweeks. If the food bin is half full think about keeping it until thefollowing week so it is composted.FOODThe first collectionSome areas will start on grey bins, and some on green bins, so pleasecheck your calendar for dates. Please place your bin out by 7amat the front edge of your propertyon the day of collection.
