What is Amtgard?Amtgard is a not for profit, non-sectarian groupdevoted to recreating elements of the medieval,ancient, and fantasy genres. The thrust of Amtgard isboth recreational and educational, with major groupefforts devoted to reconstruction of medieval combat.Amtgard weapons are safe, foam paddedreplicas of the real things.What does it take to be in Amtgard?The minimum requirement to play is to be older than14 years of age, to fill out an information sheet andwaiver (http://www.amtgard-eh.com/library.html) andif under the age of 18 have a parent or legalguardians legal consent. It is also encouraged toget a copy of the rulebook, have a medieval costume,and create a history for yourself in the game.Where is Amtgard?Amtgard is an international organization. However, several times a year we inventexcuses (Coronation, Midreign, World Banner Wars!,etc) for weekend-long camping events. On thoseoccasions members of the Emerald Hills groupsgather at the Tanglewood Forest event site inCorsicana.When is Amtgard?Within the game, Amtgard is based in medieval elementsfrom before 1650 (pre-gunpowder weapons).In order play the game, you need to have somespare weekend time. Members of Amtgard meeton Saturdays and Sundays in parks around theMetroplex. The day of play depends on the park.Members typically begin gathering at a parkbetween 1 and 2 p.m. For a first visit, arriving closerto 3 p.m. ensures enough players in attendance toget a "fuller feel" for the nature of game without toomuch waiting around. Because Amtgardians oftentravel to periodic gatherings, it is recommended thatnew players attempt to contact an active parkmember before attending for the first time.
