ConclusionsThere are times where we will work on the basis of need or referral, it willalways be clear to a young person why this is and will also be clear thatwe will work with<strong>in</strong> the values of youth work.The above expectations that a young person can have of a service canalso be held by other stakeholders such as other services, funders,parents, staff and volunteers.To achieve an <strong>in</strong>tegrated service does mean th<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g about services andth<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g across the organisation. Be<strong>in</strong>g clear about how our services look,how they work, what systems are needed, what boundaries are <strong>in</strong> placeand what the role/mission of the service. When reduced to it most basicelements an <strong>in</strong>tegrated service has a clear focus on the young personand has a clear stated mission. Everyth<strong>in</strong>g else is about deliver<strong>in</strong>g themission <strong>in</strong> a planned, agreed and understandable way by us<strong>in</strong>g goodplann<strong>in</strong>g and mak<strong>in</strong>g clear what the offer is.Develop<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>tegrated services raises questions and issues with<strong>in</strong> theorganisations that we are answer<strong>in</strong>g by plann<strong>in</strong>g and describ<strong>in</strong>g ourwork. Creat<strong>in</strong>g and work<strong>in</strong>g towards <strong>in</strong>tegrated service delivery hascreated an opportunity for <strong>Youth</strong> <strong>Work</strong> <strong>Ireland</strong> to be clear about whatwork we do with creat<strong>in</strong>g clarity for our funders, other services, parents,staff, volunteers and most importantly with young people. Whilst tak<strong>in</strong>gon a strong commitment to develop<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>tegrated services as a pr<strong>in</strong>cipleof our work has created an environment of change it is clear that thischange is an agreed and shared direction that is valued by <strong>Youth</strong> <strong>Work</strong><strong>Ireland</strong> services.In conclusion an <strong>in</strong>tegrated service is about how we do and have beentry<strong>in</strong>g to do our work and will not merely be answered by develop<strong>in</strong>g theright structures; it is about the culture and focus of youth work.<strong>Integrated</strong> services have at their heart a commitment to young people,develop<strong>in</strong>g quality youth work, ensur<strong>in</strong>g young people’s participation, andbuild<strong>in</strong>g on the strengths that young people to ensure their fullengagement <strong>in</strong> society..14
