It’s no coincidence – the Unimog was designed specially for extreme working conditions. With asuperior all-wheel-drive concept, single tyres, portal axles, Central Tyre Inflation System (CTIS) andstate-of-the-art engine and transmission technology.Even fully loaded, the Unimog packs a powerful punch, making easy work out of everyday tasks with themounted implement systems, for instance. Or getting quickly to a broken down electricity grid, keeping poweroutages to a minimum. Thanks to the portal axle design,the Unimog axle tube and differential arecentred over the wheels. You enjoy maximumground clearance – allowing you to drive overobstacles as high as 50 centimetres with ease.You also benefit from a low centre of gravityand up to 30° axle twisting between the frontand rear. Both axles are equally robust, whichmeans they both support a high axle load. Plusthe torque can be fully transmitted to bothaxles. You can also engage differential locks onboth axles when operating at high load andwhen driving. This improves the Unimog’sclimbing ability by reducing slippage.Single tyres. Unlike conventional all-wheeldrivetrucks with rear-axle dual tyres, theUnimog is equipped with single tyres. Thismeans the rear tyres can follow in the tracks ofthe front tyres for lower roll resistance andmore traction. You can also choose from a wideassortment of tyres to fit your needs. Soyou are ideally equipped for every situation –whether it be on road, off-road, in snow or in acombined rail/road setting. For example, ifyou need to carry a heavy load, the MPTmulti-purpose tyre is perfect. Or if you have tonegotiate challenging terrain, deep-tread tyresprovide optimal traction.CTIS. Need to let out a little air while inmotion? It couldn’t be any easier thanks to theCentral Tyre Inflation System (CTIS). Simplypress the switch in the centre console andreduce the air pressure in one or both axles.You don’t even have to stop. With CTIS, youcan be sure that the Unimog won’t sink in softground and that you have optimum traction(roll resistance with a 1 cm tread depth isequivalent to a 1% incline). And when you getback on solid ground, you can increase the airpressure again. This reduces tyre wear, lowersoperating costs and improves driving stabilityand comfort.
