AdventurousspiritsThis summer Queen’s girls have been involved in anumber of exciting expeditions. Students fromthroughout the school were invited to spend anexciting fortnight in two of China’s leading citieswhere they experienced an array of cultural visitsthanks to the Specialist <strong>School</strong>s and AcademiesTrust. <strong>The</strong> girls saw giant pandas, climbed the GreatWall and enjoyed rickshaw rides in old Beijingbefore flying to Shanghai in order to study Mandarinat the International <strong>School</strong> in Pudong. Meanwhile,on the other side of the globe, a group of elevensixth formers visited Costa Rica on a thrilling WorldChallenge Expedition. During their stay they helpedto refurbish a local primary school in La Flor, a smallfarming village in the mountains, before battling thechallenging jungle environment and swollen rivers ofthe Corcovado National Park. On a more localscale, but no less eventful, the Lower <strong>School</strong>journeyed to Scotland’s Loch Tay to learn about thenatural environment in a week of fun, adventure andexploration. <strong>The</strong> girls paddled Canadian canoes,went on long hikes in the mountains and learned towork together as a team in order to achieve theirgoals. At the end of the expedition, they were allawarded the John Muir Award in recognition ofwhat they had achieved on the trip. So the spiritof adventure and exploration is alive and well at ourschool - and long may it flourish!Adventurous Spirits7
