The performance testing process is designed to identify individual animals with the ability to transmit traits ofproductive and economic importance through a well designed breeding program. Some of the costs associated with seedstockdevelopment include feed, management, growth assessment, carcass evaluation and breeding soundness evaluation. Whenthese cost are added to the current value of a calf at weaning, it is easy to understand the financial investment required to ultimatelyproduce an animal offered for sale.
