site analysisVegetation Cover | Habitat FragmentationThe vegetation cover and habitat fragmentation map is used to showthat the existing vegetation cover is within the river corridor and to raiseawareness of the disconnection between them. The total vegetation coversonly about 25% of the total 11 mile river corridor.The majority of the vegetative land cover in the corridor is deciduousforest, over half of which is located in the southern portion of the map.The voids between the deciduous areas are the results of intensivelydeveloped locations. The major issue is with species diversity throughoutthe Mississippi River corridor. Vegetation provides natural habitats forwildlife, and major voids in the land due to development cause nativespecies to be confined in a small area. The goal would be to provide andincrease native vegetation that connects to existing habitats, which wouldallow for wildlife to expand along the river corridor. This would providethe opportunity for nature to expand into the urban setting, which wouldcreate aesthetically pleasing environments while incorporating peoplewith wildlife.80
