It was this style that ensured his warm reception in the premier nightclubs,lounges and groove bars of Cape Town where relocated to in 1996.<strong>Leighton</strong>’s passion for Dj’ing came unexpectedly after randomly trying his hand at playing records at aneighbour’s house who owned turntables. The vinyl bug quickly bit & just a few months later he played hisfirst gig at Baraza Groove Bar on the spectacular Camps Bay strip. This was swiftly followed by becomingpromoter and resident for the enormously popular “Sunset Sessions” every Sunday from then on.The Deep House club scene started exploding in Cape Town in ‘97 and <strong>Leighton</strong>'s breakthrough into thisflourishing arena came through the cutting edge “Voyage” Fashion events where he played alongside SouthAfrica’s top DJ talents."Rhythm"Hot on the heels of this success came additional regular residencies and <strong>Leighton</strong> later progressed to hosting"Rhythm", an evening where he played live DJ sets collaborating with some of Cape Town's finest musiciansand artists such as Moreira (sax), Riccardo Morreti (keyboards, percussion and didgeridoo), RobbieJansen (sax,trumpet), Rus Nerwich (sax), Dan Shout (sax), Toni and Franc Paco (Tucan Tucan/ on percussion).<strong>Leighton</strong>’s DJ career grew from strength to strength over the years, and his unique music style & ability toblend in with any atmosphere has led him to hold residencies at some of Cape Towns most prestigiousvenues such as Ignite, Baraza, Peppenero, Paranga, Asoka; & has also played at exclusive events abroadsuch as The Berjaya Hotel in Seychelles and the Audi Met in Portugal."Soulsideup"<strong>With</strong> over a decade experience in the entertainment industry <strong>Leighton</strong> also developed his own brand “SOUL-SIDEUP”, providing consultancy and event coordination for groove bars, clubs & prestigious hotels includingclients such as The One & Only Hotel, Cape Grace, Bascule, Asoka Bar, Ignite -Camps Bay, Primi-Waterfront & Camps Bay. His tireless passion for the music that moves his soul has further been directedinto his own music production which has led to the release of several tracks and remixes both locally &internationally on labels such as Kinky Sweet, AfterDark, 77Soul & DownSouth Music.While sticking to his soulful sounds amongst an ever increasing commercialised club scene, <strong>Leighton</strong> hasbeen featured on P4 Radio, GoodHope FM, 5 FM & Metro FM. He has built a solid reputation in South Africawhich in turn led him to also sharing the stage with some of the worlds finest international DJ’s such as KerriChandler, Dennis Ferrer, Harley & Muscle & JoJo Flores, to name a few.
<strong>Leighton</strong> currently hosts a monthly event called “Soul Revolution” @ Club Deluxe with DJ & business partnerErefaan Pearce, and is also involved in a monthly collaboration with S.A’s House Music legend Vinny DaVinci called “The Deep”; playing exclusive back to back sets, fusing the urban sounds of Jozi & the soulfulsounds of Cape Town…When asked what drives him, <strong>Leighton</strong> simply replies: "Music, as with any other art form, is an extension ofone's self.
