<strong>Your</strong> Guide <strong>to</strong> Writing <strong>an</strong> Effective <strong>CV</strong> <strong>an</strong>d Covering Letter<br />

Work Experience<br />

J<strong>an</strong> 2009 <strong>to</strong> present, Comp<strong>an</strong>y UK Ltd – London Graduate Support Engineer<br />

• Providing second line support (on site/<strong>of</strong>f site) in a busy trading environment <strong>to</strong> both<br />

s<strong>to</strong>ck borrow lo<strong>an</strong> <strong>an</strong>d collateral m<strong>an</strong>agement systems. I support internal <strong>an</strong>d<br />

external feeds from Bloomsberg, Swift, <strong>an</strong>d Gloss. I speak <strong>to</strong> users <strong>an</strong>d developers at<br />

all levels <strong>an</strong>d routinely use Unix, Java, FTP, SQL <strong>an</strong>d Sybase.<br />

• Created a partial funding pro<strong>to</strong>type system working from a Sybase database using<br />

MVC Swing- this project included gathering user requirements.<br />

• Created multiple batch programs.<br />

• Programmed a J2EE compli<strong>an</strong>t testing parser application which simulated JUnit <strong>an</strong>d<br />

produced Ant like reports. Running on JBoss serve, fin<strong>an</strong>ce files were then saved <strong>to</strong> a<br />

relational database which I created in PowerDesigner (Sybase). Working from a test<br />

pl<strong>an</strong> I created tests for each fin<strong>an</strong>ce file, overrode certain JUnit methods <strong>an</strong>d used<br />

Stylesheets (XML/XSL) <strong>to</strong> produce Ant like reports on each test.<br />

August 2006 <strong>to</strong> March 2007, XYZ Consult<strong>an</strong>cy- London Graduate Consult<strong>an</strong>t<br />

• Ch<strong>an</strong>ge M<strong>an</strong>agement Consult<strong>an</strong>t- co-ordinated risks/issues/ch<strong>an</strong>ges, collated findings<br />

<strong>an</strong>d reported <strong>to</strong> the client’s Steering Committee.<br />

• Junior Programmer- designed <strong>an</strong> interface <strong>to</strong> the client’s insur<strong>an</strong>ce system with<br />

Swing using Jbuilder. Was also responsible for creating login pages using Java.<br />

• Junior Programmer – Involved in the creation <strong>of</strong> a web shopping m<strong>an</strong>agement<br />

system. I coded Java servlets/Classes <strong>an</strong>d created XML/XSL file for web pages,<br />

retrieved data from a database <strong>an</strong>d populated pages from this using Tomcat.<br />

June 2005 <strong>to</strong> September 2005, ABC Firm- London- Summer Work Experience<br />

Desk Project Co-ordina<strong>to</strong>r<br />

• Responsible for the daily running <strong>of</strong> project (received promotion shortly after arrival).<br />

• Tr<strong>an</strong>slated technical information in<strong>to</strong> database format.<br />

• Co-ordinated the activities <strong>of</strong> team <strong>of</strong> 10 engineers <strong>an</strong>d 12 departments.<br />

• Reported weekly targets/figures <strong>an</strong>d drew up project schedules.<br />

• Provided front-line contact for 1,000 + staff for technical queries <strong>an</strong>d advice.<br />

Activities/ Interests<br />

Sport: I have been a committed member <strong>of</strong> the badmin<strong>to</strong>n team throughout university<br />

including acting as club treasurer.<br />

Travel: I enjoy experiencing new cultures <strong>an</strong>d have travelled <strong>to</strong> various parts <strong>of</strong> Europe <strong>an</strong>d<br />

America.<br />
