Action Winter in Zillertal
The special kick in the mecca for freestylers, freeskiers and freeriders
Shoot down the piste on a snowboard, surmount gravity while freestyling or enjoy
pure freedom on the finest of powder. No matter whether its Alpine, freestyle or
freeriding, Zillertal has long been known as the mecca for freestyler, freeskiers and
freeriders. Perfectly prepared fun parks and untouched deep snow slopes provide a
special kick, surrounded by the Zillertal and Tux Alps. The new Rookie Park on the
Hintertux Glacier, the new Kreuzwiese Action Park and the new boarder racetrack in
the Zillertal Arena.
Zillertal far exceeds its reputation as a winter sports paradise. Not only because you can trek
all year on snowy trails on the Hintertux Glacier – Austria’s only year round ski area – but
because Zillertal provides the perfect conditions for everyone. Freeriders enjoy the buoyancy
of the fresh powdery snow, freestylers show off their tricks in one of four fun parks while
carver and raceboard riders rejoice in 668 kilometres of the best prepared pistes. The
spectrum of amazing descents ranges from easy to challenging - and even beginners will
find perfect conditions. The especially brave can take on the Harakiri which, with a slope of
78 percent, promises a pure thrill. To ensure that you can take advantage of the enormous
offer of 172 state-of-the-art cableways, the ”Zillertal Superskipass” is available for
various periods, beginning with two days. It is the key to all six ski areas in Zillertal and to

New deluxe fun parks: Rookie Park Hintertux, Action Park Kreuzwiese and the new
boarder race track in the Zillertal Arena
Whether the Almdudler Snowpark Hochzillertal, the Vans Penken Park Mayrhofen, the
Arena HOT-ZONE.TV Snowpark in Gerlos or the Betterpark Hintertux - the fun parks in
the Zillertal leave no wish unfulfilled. Professional and authentic teams - all true connoisseurs
of the scene - provide enchantment every year with their great dedication to and experience
with these unique fun parks. Beautifully conceived and maintained, the fun parks provide
sufficient space for a wide range of tricks, jumps and creativity. Beginner, advanced or
professional - the right kickers and obstacles are provided for every skill level. Practise a
new trick or polish your existing skills exactly as your heart desires.
The quality here is worth it! This is why the Vans Penken Park was named “Park of the
Year 2010” (Snowboarder MBM) and awarded the innovation prize for Fun and Action
(skiareatest.com 09/10). The testers at Skiresort.de crowned the Betterpark in Hintertux
the “Top for Snowboards” in 2010.
All the same, the offer for the action-hungry is being further expanded. On the
Kreuzwiese in the Zillertal Arena, the so-called “Snakerun”, with numerous steep turns,

waves and jumps, promises a high-adrenaline experience; in Königsleiten, fans of the new
trend sport boardercross now have the opportunity to really get into on the permanent ski
cross/boardercross track in the Zillertal Arena. Two to four racers can compete directly
against each other on the spectacular track with jumps, waves and steep turns. Three video
tracks are also available in the Zillertal Arena so that those who would have preferred to stay
at home can also get a taste of the fun to be had on the snow. Skiers, boarders and
freestylers can record their performance on video on the SkiMovie tracks and download it for
free or send it to friends in the evening.
Beginning in December 2011, existing and aspiring shred heads will have a first-class place
to improve their skills in the new Rookie Park Hintertux. In comparison to the Betterpark
Hintertux on at Olpere, which serves an ideal training spot for the world’s freestyle elite from
April to December, the Rookie Park caters specially to beginning freestylers, with 3 to 4 of
the total of 18 descents providing perfect conditions.
Early birds: a pure powder feeling for early risers
Friends of untouched powdery snow are on top of the world in Zillertal. The wide-ranging
freeride paradise with the finest powder and virgin slopes promises not only a pure feeling of
freedom, but rich diversity as well. Exciting variations like the “Superbowl” in Hochfügen
have already made an international name for themselves. However, the amazing deep snow
slopes of the “Wanglspitz” in Mayrhofen, “Isskogel and Falschriedel” in Zell-Gerlos and
the “Lärmstange in Tux“ are not only popular amongst insiders.
Early birds get their money’s worth in Zillertal The Hochfügen ski area opens the
turnstiles of some lifts on weekends and on holidays as early as 7.45 am. In the Ski-Optimal
Hochzillertal-Kaltenbach ski area, the lifts open every day at 7.30 am! The gondolas in the
Mayrhofen ski area will start carrying their guests to the heart of ski area at 8.00 am from 25
December 2011. On the Hintertux Glacier, the lifts open daily at 8.15 am.
In the spring of 2012, guests of the Zillertal Arena will be able to greet the first rays of
sunshine on their boards. From 15 March to 15 April 2012, some tracks will be open from
6.55 am every Thursday and Sunday. Skiboard and snowboard riders can reinvigorate
themselves afterwards over a hearty breakfast in one of the numerous Zillertal chalets.
The best coaching and the latest material
With the help of 23 skiboard and snowboard schools throughout Zillertal and an
abundance of trained Zillertal alpine guides, not only can you learn the best tricks and
sways with excellent teachers, they will also take off-piste fans into open areas. The right
programme is offered in the right language for all skiers and snowboarders, so that not only
beginners, but also ambitious skiers have the opportunity to learn something new. You can
find the proper equipment at the nearly 70 outlets in Zillertal that rent skis and
snowboards. That means every guest can be sure to be out on the valley’s unique pistes
with the very best equipment.

Things kick off on the Hintertux Glacier from 30 September to 2 October 2011 with the

A pure party atmosphere awaits winter athletes at the kick-off to the 2011/12 winter season
at the big Ski & Snowboard Opening in Gerlos from 16 to 18 December 2011. Guests
can look forward to the open-air concert at the Gerlos Music Pavilion as a big musical
highlight. People party hard in the ski area as well. “Someone Else”, “Orange 4” and DJ

After the successful premiere of the Big Mountain Hochfügen, another stop on the Freeride
World Qualifier Tour at the off-piste mecca of Hochfügen is on the calendar for 2012 (4 to 9
February 2012). International top riders will challenge the mountains during the Freeride
World Qualifier. Competitors and spectators alike can look forward to a professional event

The legendary Snowbombing in Mayrhofen will again provide a pure party atmosphere
from 9 to 14 April 2012. Started years ago as an insider meeting of DJs from England, the
Netherlands and Belgium, snowbombing has become an ever-growing international event.
The familiar flair has been maintained over the years even though the music community has
continued to grow www.mayrhofen.at.

Zillertal has its own autobahn connection at the valley entrance and is only a few kilometres
away from three international airports: Innsbruck (50 km), Munich (170 km) and Salzburg
(150 km). Four Seasons Travel www.tirol-taxi.at) provides a shuttle service as a simple and
comfortable way to transfer directly to Zillertal. With Deutsche Bahn, holiday guests can now
travel quickly and comfortably to Mayrhofen from all train stations in Germany. The “Europa-
Spezial” ticket is available starting at EUR 39.00 (2nd class, one-way, while stocks last).
Shorter distances are even less expensive, e.g. Munich - Mayrhofen from just EUR 19.00.
