Recruitment activity continues to improve at RSM, while
the focus of career choices of our international students
remains consistently international. The character of the
school and the student body no doubt means that this will
remain the case, and the profile of the typical RSM student
reflects very accurately the requirements of recruiting
companies who operate internationally. In 2000 over 85%
of the recruiting companies were of non-Dutch origin,
and while 22% of our students accepted positions in the
Netherlands, they were almost all positions with an
international orientation. Indeed, 88% of all positions
accepted by the Class of 2000 were international in origin.
Areas of student interest
Despite fears of a dotcom shakeout, which has indeed
occurred, a high number of students have signed up with
Internet-related service companies (14%), with another
19% joining high tech/IT/telecommunication companies, an
increase of 5% from 1999. Consequently, RSM’s traditionally
high numbers recruited into the finance-related and
consulting industries (1999 38% and 27% respectively)
has fallen to 24% and 13% respectively, with another 7%
consulting in e-business. We encourage you to evaluate
your recruiting practices in light of these changes and
perhaps seek new ways to leverage them in support of
your recruiting efforts.
A new feature of this year’s report is the inclusion of data
on the activities of the Class of 2001 and their summer
projects.
