Alumnus pens off-Broadway playWell-known <strong>Mennonite</strong> author, publisherand playwright Merle Good, 1964, <strong>Lancaster</strong>,believes his newest creation, The Preacherand the Shrink, is the best play he’s everwritten.Good’s work is set to open Nov. 2 at theBeckett Theatre in New York, an off-Broadwaytheater on West 42nd Street a few blocksfrom Times Square. It’s run will end on Jan. 5.The play is set in MIddle America in the fallof 2009. It looks at the strain and stress griefbrings to family relationships and questionsif human beings truly listen to one another.It focuses on an estranged relationshipbetween a father , who happens to be apastor, and his daughter, examining if theycan find healing and ever trust one anotheragain.The show will run at 8 p.m. Tuesdaysthrough Saturdays withafternoon matineeson Saturdays andSundays. Smucker is director of engineeringfor Tupolo Honey Productions in NewYork, N.Y.Lane Crouse, 2004, Atlanta, Ga., worksas a sound designer for Turner Studiosand is involved with the set-up for theColbert Report. Crouse also helpedwith the technical production of the<strong>Mennonite</strong> Church USA Convention inPhoenix, Arizona, in July.Kristina Fenninger, 2007, NewHolland, graduated magna cumlaude from California University ofPennsylvania with a Master of Sciencedegree in communication disorders.She previously earned her bachelor’sdegree from Bloomsburg University in2011.J. Wilson Roth, 2007, <strong>Lancaster</strong>, is thenew manager of shipping, property andmaintenance at Good Enterprises inIntercourse. He splits time between thehands-on work and helping to boostthe company’s online presence.Heidi Weaver, 2009, Denver, isan East Coast education outreachrepresentative for The Thirst Project,an L.A.-based nonprofit organizationthat builds clean water wells.Weaver previously interned with theorganization and traveled across thecountry speaking in high schools andcolleges about the global water crisis.Ryan Gehman, 2011, Millersville, runscross country for Eastern <strong>Mennonite</strong>University and was named the ODACAthlete of the Week on Sept. 9.Gehman took first in just his secondNCAA race, winning the GeneralsInvitational in Lexington, Va., by morethan 17 seconds.MARRIAGESCalvin Ruth, 2008, and HannaNussbaum, June 1, 2013.
