Please send your completed packet to thefollowing address by Friday, June 20, 2013.Camp Concord1950 Parkside DriveMS/11Concord, CA 94519 The Health Status Update must be submitted to your program coordinator at check-in prior toboarding the bus. Do not return this form before the day of departure.What to BringSummer temperatures at Camp Concord during the daytime are usually pleasant but in the morning andat night and in it can get cold. The cool, crisp mountain air calls for warm clothing and heavy bedcovers at night, especially as the cabins are not heated. Occasional rain showers are not uncommon.Luggage space is limited, so please be compact. Included with this letter is a recommended packing listfor your child. Your camper may want to bring money to use at the camp store.Please do not bring the following: Guns, knives, explosives, weapons of any kind, pagers, cell phones,jewelry, pets, radios, MP3 players, CD items, PDAs, video games, TVs, or any other expensive,sentimental or electronic items of any kind.TransportationTransportation to camp will be provided by charter buses. The buses are air-conditioned, equipped withrest rooms and staffed with at least two counselors plus the bus driver.Check-in:Where: The parking lot near Payless Batting Cages.2700 East Olivera RoadConcord, CA 94519When: Monday morning, July 15 th , between 8:15 and 8:30. The buses will depart at 9:00.Remember to have your child bring the white Health Status Update formFor the return trip, the buses will depart South Lake Tahoe at approximately 12:30pm on Saturday, July20th and arrive back at 2700 East Olivera between 4:30pm and 5:00pm depending on traffic and roadconditions.FoodPlease have your child eat a good breakfast before leaving for camp, as a late lunch will be the first mealprovided. All food will be provided for your camper during their time at Camp Concord. Campers arewelcome to bring a light snack and water bottle for the bus ride: no soda or juice please. It is notnecessary to send money with your child; however, the camp store does sell additional snacks anddrinks. Please indicate your child’s food allergies on the medical forms.
Medical CareThere will be a nurse at camp 24 hours a day for the entire week. There will also be staff certified in CPRand First Aid at Camp Concord with your child. First aid will be administered if needed and our nurse willdistribute medication to your child if authorized to do so. In case of an emergency, arrangements fortreatment have been made with Barton Medical Hospital just 15 minutes from Camp Concord.Lice & Pre-existing Health ConditionsChildren with signs of lice or who have pre-existing health conditions unacceptable for the high altitudeand active program of Camp Concord will be required to leave camp immediately with an authorizedadult. Parents will be contacted to pick up their child at Camp. To avoid this potentially embarrassingand time consuming circumstance, please monitor your child for head lice and other health conditionsprior to check in.MedicationsAll medications need to be given to your program coordinator in their original containers, with cleardirections and prescription doses prescribed by your child’s doctor. Over the counter medications maynot be distributed to your child while at Camp unless accompanied by a signed note from a medicalprofessional. In addition, the section on the Health History/Medical Authorization form that allows youto list medications to be given must be filled out in order for medications to be administered. Thesignature of a physician is not required.Bubonic PlagueAlthough no cases have been reported for many years, we are required to make sure all Campers andtheir parents are aware that Camp Concord is located in an area of the Tahoe Basin where the bubonicplague is indigenous and exposure to your child is possible.Lost and FoundCamp Concord is not responsible for damaged, lost or stolen articles. We do however make every effortto keep losses to a minimum by having a lost and found rack located near the Camp Office. Please writeyour child’s name on their belongings.Contacting Your Child at CampBecause of limited phone lines and the structure of the camp program, phone calls are not permittedexcept in emergency circumstances. If there is an emergency, please call the main Camp Concordnumber at (530) 541-1203, or either number listed above. Also, please keep your calls to a minimumand do not plan to visit your child while at camp. We have found that phone calls and visits take awayfrom the outdoor experience and contribute heavily to symptoms of homesickness. This in turn affectsother campers who become homesick for their parents.Camp Concord1000 Mt.
