Welcome CAMPERS!Thank you for choosing <strong>Camp</strong> <strong>Concord</strong> at South Lake Tahoe for y<strong>our</strong> child’s summer adventure. We arevery excited to bring Youth <strong>Camp</strong> back for this special week, July 15-20. Y<strong>our</strong> campers will beexperiencing an exciting program that will include traditional camp activities such as canoeing, fishing,hiking, horseback riding, zip lining, swimming, campfires and Lake Tahoe beach fun– combined with aone-day escape to Tahoe Treetop Adventure Park where we will Zip Line, Tree Climb, and challenge<strong>our</strong>selves!While staying in South Lake Tahoe y<strong>our</strong> campers will bunk in rustic cabins with up to seven otherchildren and one or two trained counselors. Our counselors are chosen because <strong>of</strong> their ability to begood role models and their strong leadership skills. These young adults are responsible, enthusiasticindividuals who are excited to share the camp experience with y<strong>our</strong> child. We are all looking forward toa safe, fun and enriching week in beautiful South Lake Tahoe!Below you will find information about y<strong>our</strong> child’s week at <strong>Camp</strong> <strong>Concord</strong>. Do not return this form before the day <strong>of</strong> departure.What to BringSummer temperatures at <strong>Camp</strong> <strong>Concord</strong> during the daytime are usually pleasant but in the morning andat night and in it can get cold. The cool, crisp mountain air calls for warm clothing and heavy bedcovers at night, especially as the cabins are not heated. Occasional rain showers are not uncommon.Luggage space is limited, so please be compact. Included with this <strong>letter</strong> is a recommended packing listfor y<strong>our</strong> child. Y<strong>our</strong> camper may want to bring money to use at the camp store.Please do not bring the following: Guns, knives, explosives, weapons <strong>of</strong> any kind, pagers, cell phones,jewelry, pets, radios, MP3 players, CD items, PDAs, video games, TVs, or any other expensive,sentimental or electronic items <strong>of</strong> any kind.TransportationTransportation to camp will be provided by charter buses. The buses are air-conditioned, equipped withrest rooms and staffed with at least two counselors plus the bus driver.Check-in:Where: The parking lot near Payless Batting Cages.2700 East Olivera Road<strong>Concord</strong>, CA 94519When: Monday morning, July 15 th , between 8:15 and 8:30. The buses will depart at 9:00.Remember to have y<strong>our</strong> child bring the white Health Status Update formFor the return trip, the buses will depart South Lake Tahoe at approximately 12:30pm on Saturday, July20th and arrive back at 2700 East Olivera between 4:30pm and 5:00pm depending on traffic and roadconditions.FoodPlease have y<strong>our</strong> child eat a good breakfast before leaving for camp, as a late lunch will be the first mealprovided. All food will be provided for y<strong>our</strong> camper during their time at <strong>Camp</strong> <strong>Concord</strong>. <strong>Camp</strong>ers are<strong>welcome</strong> to bring a light snack and water bottle for the bus ride: no soda or juice please. It is notnecessary to send money with y<strong>our</strong> child; however, the camp store does sell additional snacks anddrinks. Please indicate y<strong>our</strong> child’s food allergies on the medical forms.


Medical CareThere will be a nurse at camp 24 h<strong>our</strong>s a day for the entire week. There will also be staff certified in CPRand First Aid at <strong>Camp</strong> <strong>Concord</strong> with y<strong>our</strong> child. First aid will be administered if needed and <strong>our</strong> nurse willdistribute medication to y<strong>our</strong> child if authorized to do so. In case <strong>of</strong> an emergency, arrangements fortreatment have been made with Barton Medical Hospital just 15 minutes from <strong>Camp</strong> <strong>Concord</strong>.Lice & Pre-existing Health ConditionsChildren with signs <strong>of</strong> lice or who have pre-existing health conditions unacceptable for the high altitudeand active program <strong>of</strong> <strong>Camp</strong> <strong>Concord</strong> will be required to leave camp immediately with an authorizedadult. Parents will be contacted to pick up their child at <strong>Camp</strong>. To avoid this potentially embarrassingand time consuming circumstance, please monitor y<strong>our</strong> child for head lice and other health conditionsprior to check in.MedicationsAll medications need to be given to y<strong>our</strong> program coordinator in their original containers, with cleardirections and prescription doses prescribed by y<strong>our</strong> child’s doctor. Over the counter medications maynot be distributed to y<strong>our</strong> child while at <strong>Camp</strong> unless accompanied by a signed note from a medicalpr<strong>of</strong>essional. In addition, the section on the Health History/Medical Authorization form that allows youto list medications to be given must be filled out in order for medications to be administered. Thesignature <strong>of</strong> a physician is not required.Bubonic PlagueAlthough no cases have been reported for many years, we are required to make sure all <strong>Camp</strong>ers andtheir parents are aware that <strong>Camp</strong> <strong>Concord</strong> is located in an area <strong>of</strong> the Tahoe Basin where the bubonicplague is indigenous and exposure to y<strong>our</strong> child is possible.Lost and Found<strong>Camp</strong> <strong>Concord</strong> is not responsible for damaged, lost or stolen articles. We do however make every effortto keep losses to a minimum by having a lost and found rack located near the <strong>Camp</strong> Office. Please writey<strong>our</strong> child’s name on their belongings.Contacting Y<strong>our</strong> Child at <strong>Camp</strong>Because <strong>of</strong> limited phone lines and the structure <strong>of</strong> the camp program, phone calls are not permittedexcept in emergency circumstances. If there is an emergency, please call the main <strong>Camp</strong> <strong>Concord</strong>number at (530) 541-1203, or either number listed above. Also, please keep y<strong>our</strong> calls to a minimumand do not plan to visit y<strong>our</strong> child while at camp. We have found that phone calls and visits take awayfrom the outdoor experience and contribute heavily to symptoms <strong>of</strong> homesickness. Rules & Regulations (Please read carefully)<strong>Camp</strong> rules and regulations have been established to meet the emotional and physical needs <strong>of</strong> <strong>our</strong>campers. Our regulations are a result <strong>of</strong> the high standards we must meet to provide 24-h<strong>our</strong> care for<strong>our</strong> campers. Children unwilling to comply with the rules and regulations established by the City <strong>of</strong><strong>Concord</strong> Park and Recreation Department and <strong>Camp</strong> <strong>Concord</strong> will be sent home. Parents are required toprovide or pay for transportation <strong>of</strong> their child. Please remember that absolutely NO SMOKING, NOTOBACCO PRODUCTS, NO MATCHES OR LIGHTERS, NO ALCOHOL OR DRUGS, NO KNIVES (includingpocket knives), NO WEAPONS, NO GAMEBOYS, AND NO ELECTRONICS OF ANY KIND are allowed.In ClosingParents, please complete the enclosed forms (www.friends<strong>of</strong>camp.com) and return to <strong>Camp</strong><strong>Concord</strong>, 1950 Parkside Drive, MS/11, <strong>Concord</strong>, CA 94519. The Health History and <strong>Camp</strong>er Informationforms must be signed in order for y<strong>our</strong> child to participate in camp.Parents, please remind y<strong>our</strong> child that gum chewing is not allowed at <strong>Camp</strong> <strong>Concord</strong>. It presents aproblem in disposal – it is not acceptable to find gum on the ground, plates, under tables, etc.Assist us by enc<strong>our</strong>aging y<strong>our</strong> child to participate in all camp activities and to follow the rules <strong>of</strong> campand <strong>of</strong> <strong>our</strong> staff.Y<strong>our</strong> child will be expected to interact with other campers and staff in positive ways and will be heldaccountable for their own behavior.We are looking forward to a fantastic week and appreciate y<strong>our</strong> support in preparing y<strong>our</strong> child for thiswonderful experience!
