Record Number of Attendees at Border Security Expo!
Over 1460 attendees turned out for the opening day of Border Security Expo, setting a record for
the largest number of attendees in the show’s history. These professionals came from across the
federal, state and local border security community, meeting in Phoenix to discuss, debate and
articulate the key issues and challenges in border security in the US and around the world.

Brewer denounces lax border security, pledges improved commerce and trade

BORDER SECURITY EXPO, PHOENIX, ARIZ. -- Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (R) took a swipe at
critics, the federal government and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano in an opening
speech at the Border Security Expo in Phoenix, Ariz.
"The federal government -- Republicans and Democrats alike -- has failed every single American.
All of us," she told the audience of government officials, industry executives and media in an
opening address that denounced lax border security. "Washington's abdication of responsibility is
the overarching outrage of America's illegal immigration crisis."
Saying that she was pursuing "MY truth" that the United States must secure the southern border to
keep citizens safe, enforce the law and ensure the US-Mexican relationship, Brewer said her
words would be distorted and she'd be painted as "hard-hearted and uncompassionate."
Saying that "there is no next-best, easier truth," she denounced "those in Washington who will tell
you...from 3,000 miles away....that our border is more secure than ever," a clear reference to
Napolitano's statements that the border is more secure than ever. Citing the deaths of rancher
Robert Krentz and Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry as well as Arizonans plagued by crime and
forced to bear the burden of taxation for detention expenses, Brewer maintained: "Those are the
facts, plain and simple."

She continued: "Our opponents, the self-styled do-gooders, try mightily to bury.... They spin and
shout, hate and denounce. To disagree with them, I've learned, is to suffer incredible verbal
abuse."
Brewer said she believes in "a framework of laws enforced consistently and impartially" and "a
prosperity that should be enjoyed by all -- on BOTH sides of the border." She called for a US-
Mexican relationship that would improve both countries' economies.
"Arizona needs a border that is secure in preventing illegal immigration but effective in promoting
swift and easy legal entry," she said. She also called for efficient ports of entry and noted that
progress had been made in expanding the commercial crossings in Mariposa and Lukeville, as well
as a new port at San Luis II.
Also noting a recent trip to Rocky Point, Mexico, Brewer told her Mexican counterpart, a Gov.
Padres, that Arizona and his state together represented an economic region that had to compete
with others and that it was essential that they facilitate legal trade and commerce.
She also stated that she would continue pushing for a mutually beneficial border that provided
economic growth and stopped crime. Further, she pledged to continue pushing the federal
government for stronger border enforcement.
After the conclusion of her prepared remarks she told the audience, "Have a great time and spend
lots of money!"
She then toured the show floor.

system a rapid deployable and cost effective system for border security.
Border Security Expo gets air time with ABC-15 TV
New technology at the Border Security Expo was showcased by local Phoenix news channel ABC-
15 during its morning news program and featured a lengthy interview with Mike Rosenberg, VP
Security, EJ Krause & Associates, who explained the use of surveillance drones to a local reporter.

"Last year, we attended but didn’t have a booth, so exhibiting here is new for us. There are
more attendees and exhibitors than last year. We don’t need to talk to every attendee that
walks through the hall, because we have a niche product, but we had 18 good leads before
noon today. That makes this show a really good way to spend a couple of days."

Bratton, Colburn receive awards
William Bratton, chairman of Kroll Associates and former police commissioner of both New York
and Los Angeles, and Ronald Colburn, principal of Command Consulting and former deputy chief
of the US Border Patrol, both received lifetime achievement awards for excellence in border
security initiatives at the Border Security Expo. The awards were sponsored by Raytheon Co.,
Waltham, Mass.

In receiving the award, Bratton stressed the importance of collaboration and coordination and
related that the Homeland Security Advisory Council, of which he is a member, spends 90 percent
of its time considering border issues. He praised Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano
for investing in border security and pledged that current enforcement efforts are "going to make a
difference."
Colburn, citing 30 years of experience enforcing border security, announced that "there is no
compromise in securing the border" and urged his audience to contribute to the Border Patrol
Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports the survivors of fallen Border Patrol agents, and
the 100 Club of Arizona, which provides immediate assistance to the families of killed or injured
agents.
In thanking his hosts for the award, Colburn made a point of thanking his wife Debbie for her
contribution to his efforts and his career. "She's a concealed weapon carrier, she does know
immigration law, and she will hold people accountable," he told the audience.
