What does PentoMuls ®do to my boiler?PentoMuls ® allows the on-line production of a stablewater-in-oil emulsion. Firing an emulsion has a greatimpact on the boiler: Due to the secondary atomisation,the fuel oil burns a great deal faster and much morecompletely. The result is a compact, short flame witha good temperature distribution, therefore much lessnitrogen oxide (NOx) and sulphur trioxide (SO3) isgenerated.Without water-in-oil emulsion, atomisation isinsufficient. The combustion time is too short to burnthe oil completely, resulting in unburned carbon leavingthe combustion chamber.Reduction Facts:Solidemission > 80 %NOx > 20 %Fuel saving > 2 %The secondary atomisation cracks down fuel oilparticles and allows a complete carbon burn-out withinshorter time.
The technologyPentoMuls ® is a well balanced blend of surfactants,dispersants and catalysts.The surfactants allow the creation of a stable, highqualitywater-in-oil emulsion with water particle sizesin the range of 4 to 6 µm.Deagglomerating asphaltenes in the emulsion reducesthe demand for excess air during combustion and,therefore, results in a corresponding reduction of NOxand SO3 emissions.4 - 6 µm100 - 150 µm 100 - 150 µmTypical fuel oildroplet sizeWater droplets have asmall size andare distributed well in theemulsion.To achieve the best possible combustion with heavyfuel oil, water droplets with a size of 4 to 6 µm haveto be thoroughly mixed with the oil. If the size of thewater droplets is too small, the energy set free duringcombustion is too small to atomise the fuel oil. On theother hand, water droplets with particle size of morethan 10 µm will atomise too slowly which will result inan unbalanced flame.Conventional Combustion.Firing the Emulsion.
