Philippine Institute for Development StudiesTHE INSTITUTEThe Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) is a nonstock, nonprofit government researchinstitution engaged in long-term, policy-oriented research. It was established on September 26, 1977 byvirtue of Presidential Decree No. 1201.PIDS is envisioned to be a development policy “think tank” for planners, policy- and decisionmakersin government. In serving this role, PIDS has tapped and encouraged the existing reservoir of researchresources in the Philippine academic community to become productive in research lines considered byPIDS to be of high priority, without drawing them away from the academic and research institutionswhere they are based.
