THE PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE 

Here we are getting ready for another year, hopefully a better year for all of us. The MWWDA is holding 

its annual convention at the Billings Hotel on February 2 nd – 3 rd 2012 in Billings MT. I would like to invite 

all of you to join us there for educational classes, trade show, speakers, great food and drinks at our 

banquet on Thursday evening. 

Once again we are putting on two fundraisers. One of the fundraisers is our scholarship silent auction. It 

has brought in the past few years enough money to give out three scholarships of one $1,000.00 and 

two $500.00. Our goal is to raise that to three $1,000.00 scholarships! So please collect items and bring 

them to the convention and maybe we can achieve our goal. The other fundraiser is our raffle to raise 

money to pay for our lobbyist Ronda Wiggers. Ronda has done a wonderful job for our association and 

the water well industry here in Montana. This years raffle is for a 5 night all inclusive trip for two to the 

Golden Parnassus adult Resort & Spa in Cancun Mexico. You can contact any of the board of directors 

and they will gladly help you purchase raffle tickets for $10.00 each. Please help us with this important 

fundraiser. It will help all of us in the water well business here in Montana. 

If you are not a member I would like to encourage you to join and together we’ll make a difference. I 

am looking forward to seeing all of you February 2 nd -3 rd 2012.

Be a Part of the wellcare® Well Owners Network! 

The Water Systems Council is proud to have the Montana Water Well Drillers 

Association as a member. We are committed to working with you to help ensure the nearly 

400,000 people in Montana relying on private wells have access to information and tools to 

better understand their drinking water source. One new resource we want to tell you about is 

the wellcare® Well Owners Network. Members in the wellcare® Well Owners Network receive 

a FREE quarterly newsletter with information on wells, well water and practical tips for 

protecting our groundwater resources. Network members also receive notices of upcoming 

webinars and other wellcare® activities. The webinars are relevant to the industry and to well 

owners, many of which are free. Annual reminders to test your well and special discounted test 

kits are also a part of the program. Membership in the wellcare® Well Owners Network is FREE. 

We invite you to join to find out what it’s all about. Members of the Montana association, 

water well owners and anyone interested in wells and groundwater are welcome to join! It’s 

FREE! 

The wellcare® Well Owners Network is part of the Water Systems Council’s wellcare®

You are cordially invited to attend the MWWDA Ladies Auxiliary Program February 2 nd & 

3 rd at the Billings Hotel in Billings. 

Once again we will be supporting our “Favoring Others” project in Lieu of favors for the 

program attendees. This year our Favoring Others recipient will be the Tumbleweed 

Center in Billings (see next page for additional information). We will be starting 

Thursday with a short business meeting; we will then tour the Moss Mansion in historic 

Billings. Following the tour we will enjoy lunch at The Soup Place. And then proceed to 

Tumbleweed, where we will have a tour of their facility and fill the backpacks with our 

donated items. 

Friday morning we will leave open for you ladies that would like to sleep in or take 

advantage of all the great shopping in the Billings area. We will meet at Johnny Carino’s 

and then onto a tour at the Yellowstone Cellars and Winery where we will be tasting 

wine & sampling chocolates from Sweetie Pies Candies & Confections.

Favoring Others 

The Montana Water Well Driller’s Ladies Auxiliary “Favoring Others” recipient during their 

2012 annual convention in Billings will be the Tumbleweed Runaway Program. In addition to 

touring Tumbleweed, the Ladies Auxiliary will be collecting donations on their behalf. 

Tumbleweeds History 

Tumbleweed Runaway Program began in 1976 when the Junior League of Billings was 

successful in securing a Runaway and Homeless Youth Grant. The “Tumbleweed Project” began 

and continues to serve the Billings community with the help from their many partners and 

volunteers. Additional programs have been added to enhance their mission and Tumbleweed is 

serving and increasing number of youth every year. 

Tumbleweed’s Mission & Vision 

Tumbleweed’s mission and goals are all directed toward the prevention of homelessness, 

running way and delinquency; addressing severe family conflict; as well as responding to other 

social problems among ages 10‐21. Runaway and homeless youth tend to be venerable to 

abuse exploitation, and are prone to delinquency as a mechanism of survival. Through the 

provision of specialized social services, and access to direct assistance, Tumbleweed has been 

able to substantially address the human service needs of this venerable population. 

Tumbleweed has a need for the following items:

Lip balm/chapstick Backpacks (No red or blue can be on the backpack)

I would like to thank the Montana Water Well Drillers 

Association for granting me a $500 scholarship. I 

sincerely appreciate your continuous generosity in 

aiding me with my education. I am the daughter of Dave 

and Carolyn Potts, and my dad is the owner of Potts 

Drilling Inc based in Bozeman. Currently, I am a 

sophomore at Seattle University pursuing a Bachelor’s of 

Science in Nursing. Last year, I took core classes such as 

English, history, philosophy, math, and art for the liberal 

arts education that are required of all Seattle University 

students. Therefore, this coming academic year, I will be 

taking anatomy and physiology, microbiology, and 

psychology to fulfill the prerequisite classes for nursing 

majors. In the spring, I will finally begin my nursing 

classes, which I am eagerly looking forward to. This year, 

I will continue to be a part of the Seattle University 

Nurses Association (SUSNA) in hopes of becoming an 

officer for the club in my junior year. I am also 

maintaining two jobs in the Admissions Office as a 

Student Telephone Admissions Representative (STAR) 

and as a part‐time tour guide and helper for large 

campus events. In addition, I was fortunate to become a 

part of the Peer Health Action Team (PHAT) at Seattle 

University. As a part of this team, I have become a 

Certified Peer Educator with the training of advising, 

helping, and teaching students about mental health, 

physical health, nutrition, alcohol, drugs, sexual assault, 

and healthy relationships. I look forward to this 

leadership position as I am able to be more involved in 

the Seattle University community, and the experience I 

will gain to aid me in my future career as a nurse. I am 

really looking forward to this upcoming school year as it 

should be an exciting and eventful one. And again, I 

would like to thank the MWWDA for the scholarship and 

their constant support of students wishing to pursue a 

college education.

I would sincerely like to thank the Montana Water 

Well Drillers Association for awarding me the $500 

scholarship. It is much appreciated and will help me 

in my final year of my college education. 

I am the daughter of Dave and Carolyn Potts, who 

together own Potts Drilling, a water well drilling 

business located in Bozeman, Montana. Currently, I 

am a senior at the University of Northern Colorado 

(UNC), studying Recreation, Tourism, and 

Hospitality. So far in my college career, I have 

completed all of my core classes, along with 

Recreation classes that consist of programming, 

training with grant writing, designing surveys, 

writing manuscripts, and learning how to network 

throughout the community and state. 

Currently I am working at the UNC Recreation 

Center in two different departments. One of the 

departments is Campus Recreation, where I work 

the Open Recreation position at the front desk, 

greeting patrons and helping them with any needs. 

The second position is in a new program called 

Outdoor Pursuits. Within this program, the 

University has the ability to rent outdoor gear to 

students and facility, as well as lead outdoor trips to 

the mountains, and local national parks. Working 

these two jobs has given me many opportunities to 

exceed in my recreational interests, and gives me 

potential options for my future career. 

I am looking forward to my final year at the 

University of Northern Colorado, by finishing off my 

college career as strong as I can. Thank you once 

again, for awarding me the $500 scholarship.
