Needs You!Surgery on Sunday (S.O.S.) is a nonprofitorganization that providesoutpatient surgical services to theworking poor who are uninsuredand do not qualify for federalor state assistance. Patients arereferred from existing organizationsin the community includingthe Fayette County Public HealthDepartment, Hope Center,Nathaniel Mission, Baby Health,Saint Joseph Free Health Clinic,Bluegrass Farm Workers and SalvationArmy. Since the organizationbegan more than two years ago,2,000 patients have been treated.However, a 300 percent increasehas occurred in the number ofpatients in need. S.O.S. performssurgeries one Sunday a month.Volunteers are desperately needed,especially anesthesiologists, nurseanesthetists, pre-op/post-opnurses, orthopaedics and generalsurgeons.
