Volume XI, Issue 8 August 12, 2009FIA PRO STOCK CARAn off the trailer 6.799/202, over a tenth better than anyone else in the session, indicated that the Pro Stock class(15 entries being the biggest field seen in FIA Pro Stock) were going to spend another under the cosh wielded byJimmy Alund. However, by the end of qualifying three had clocked 6.79s and Alund was in second spot with a6.792/203. First round of eliminations and again Alund was second in the performance stakes but into the semisafter a 6.854/202 defeated a redlighting Eero Knihtila. The final four saw Michael Malmgren try and stop Alund, but a0.031 light put Alund ahead at the start and a 6.773/203 saw him take the win going away and on course for anotherevent win.Of the 6.79s carded in qualifications, Richard ‘Nixxon’ Sundblom carded the pole setter with a 6.791/202, and thusmarked a remarkable comeback for the Finnish driver after impacting the wall at Alastaro. Sundblom, the defendingevent champion, earnt a semifinal berth by six foot in overcoming Michael Callin’s substantial holeshot in theopening round of eliminations (a 6.818/202 to 6.928/199 being a lot closer at the stripe than the ETs would suggest),but then slowed at half track to end his day against Magnus Hanssen.After a couple of seasons looking for a raceday setup Magnus Hanssen managed to get one at this year’s VeidecFestival, converting a fourth qualifying 6.865 into a final round spot against Alund, after defeating Tommy Leindahland Sundblom with a pair of 6.9s, a pace that would need stepping up considerably if he was to pose a threat to thepoints leader.FIA/UEM European Championships Round Three, Veidec Festival, Mantorp Park, Sweden - Page 7 of 15 -DragRacingOnline.com
