The smoke in Saskatchewan is comingfrom forest fires raging in the north of the province and the Northwest Territories.There are now 116 firesburning in Saskatchewan,fuelled by high heat and littlehumidity. There is little relieffrom the heat at night,allowing many of the fires tocontinue to spread.Toddi Steelman, executivedirector of the University ofSaskatchewan's school ofenvironment andsustainability, says the heatand drought are primeconditions for wildfires.12
