NICE guidance (MTG19) supportsthe geko device for reducing therisk of VTE 1The geko is a battery powered, disposable, neuromuscularelectro-stimulation device designed to increase bloodflow in the veins of the leg, reducing the risk of VTE, whenpharmacological or other mechanical methods of VTEprevention are impractical or contraindicated.The geko device stimulates the commonperoneal nerve activating the calf andfoot muscle pumps and increasing venous,arterial and microcirculatory blood flow 2 .
