THE SCOUTER’S DISPATCH October 2013 http://hwscouting.ca/ Volume 27 Issue 2 Page 2Scouters,As groups are busy with registration and welcomingnew youth to their sections, I would like tothank Scouters for offering their time and energyto their group; to Scouts Canada. In the spring at an Area Meeting, Scouters came upwith a list of reasons why youth would benefitfrom joining Scouts Canada.I have thought about why we as leaders join Scouts Canada. Be a member of the “village” that rears the children Be productive Because we have the time Challenge self Connecting with like-minded individuals Give back to our community Give meaning to our lives Help youth problem solve Justify having a collection of tents and sleeping bags Learn about others Make friends; be with friends Meet others from across Canada and around the world Pay it forward Reliving childhood memories Satisfaction of helping others Sense of belonging Share our passion for Scouting Share principles and beliefs Stay young Teach critical thinking Teaching others skills To achieve something positive To be a coach or mentor To camp year round To encourage youth to be independent To encourage youth to express their own opinions and bethemselves To give of one self To give unconditionally To learn new skills To make a difference in our community Wear a uniform Work with youthI appreciate that everyone has family, responsibilitiesand commitments and time is so precious. Withoutour leaders giving of themselves and sharingtheir passion for Scouting, this organization would not be what itis today.YiS, Sandra TaylorHamilton-Wentworth Area Commissionertsuris2@hotmail.comHamilton Scouters,Dear Group Registrars,October brings phase three of Fall Registration.Hopefully, the Hamilton Areakickoff provided the information you needand you are registering lots of youth andvolunteers! THE SCOUTER’S DISPATCH October 2013 http://hwscouting.ca/ Volume 27 Issue 2 Page 6World Rover Moot ExperienceFrom August 8th to August 19th, Canada was host to 2000 Rover-aged youth for the 14th World Rover Moot. Canada hosted83 Countries from around the globe. The Moot was held at Camp Awacamenj Mino located 75 miles north of Ottawa. The youth wereput into International Patrols of 8 with various Countries represented in each patrol. This turned out to be a great experience for theyouth to learn from each other about culture and traditions. The Moot got started at a formal opening at Parliament Hill with GovernorGeneral and Chief Scout David Johnston and other dignitaries. The participantswere then bused to camp for the Camp opening with the Algonquin Native people. An upbeat rock and roll party at the main tent was a good way to end the evening.Participants had 2 days in Camp to setup and get their orientation work done. Thenhalf of the participants left for either Montreal, Quebec City or Toronto for theirurban journeys. They all got back together for the "Cultural Day" experience whenit was time to show off your Countries dress, customs and food. This proved to be amost educating experience for all.The next 3 days, the other half of camp left for their Journey. When incamp, the youth did events like canoeing, sailing, white water rafting, repelling/rock climbing, horseback riding, geocaching, cycling, museum tours, 24 hour hike,or luxury time swimming, volleyball, soccer, rugby, and cricket. They all got backtogether for the last 2 days of the Moot. The friendships and memories will be everlastingfor participants and those on Offer of Service. An experience of a lifetime I would recommend to everyone.YiS,Rob McLean, DCC-Training and DevelopmentBattlefields CouncilJOB OPENINGSThese positions are open on the HW Leadership Team.If you know anyone who may be interested, or you simply would be a good fit, please pass along to those individuals or share a name with Sandra Taylor or MickeyMcPherson.
