<strong>Online</strong> birth registrationIn South Australia, we have a new methodof registering a birth online, as well asapplying for a birth certificate online.It means that instead of filling in the printed<strong>Birth</strong> <strong>Registration</strong> Statement document providedto you, you can provide the details online inone easy process.The website also provides links to other babyservices, including Child and Family Health Service,and even the online Baby Names register, in caseyou’re still searching for names.It doesn’t matter which way you choose to registerthe birth, as long as it is done within 60 days,as required by law.To register online, please go tocbs.sa.gov.au/bdmBefore you start, you will need to know• date and place of birth• birth weight (refer to the <strong>Birth</strong> <strong>Registration</strong>Statement)• doctor or midwife details (refer to the <strong>Birth</strong><strong>Registration</strong> Statement)• mother’s full details• father’s or co-parent’s full details• marriage details (if appropriate)• details of any previous childrenYou will then be shown a sample certificate on screenwhere you can check the details are correct, andeven go back and make corrections if necessary.


Consumer and Business ServicesOnce the online registration is submitted, you will beemailed a completed application form that requiressigning. Therefore you will need access to• an email account• a printerOrdering a <strong>Birth</strong> CertificateA birth certificate is not issued automatically, so youwill be asked whether you want to order a standardand/or a commemorative certificate.
