cows out of the deal. Didn’t need me any more so… see ya. But you know, as it turned out it was probably thebest thing every happened to me. And I went and worked for the Feds in ’85. They had Molokai. I was anappraiser for the depopulation. That was another whole trip. Hoo!LW:What depopulation are we talking about?CB:They depopulated all the cattle off Molokai in 1985. Because of the tuberculosis.LW:Because of cattle tuberculosis?CB:Cattle tuberculosis.LW:Oh, I didn’t know that.CB:And…LW:You mean it was only there and they needed to get rid of those cattle?CB: Yeah. And part of it… you know, there was… everybody says it was kind of a BS deal and that MolokaiRanch set it up ‘cause they needed… they wanted to get the money and all this stuff and that may have beenpart of the deal, but we were starting to ship cattle to the mainland at that time. Elmer Rabin had been hereand was buying cattle and taking them in and… well because Molokai was still considered a Tuberculosis…you know… area. In order to get the whole State over Tuberculosis… tuberculosis free, we had to depopulateMolokai. So it was a two pronged deal. Anyway, that was six weeks on Molokai. That was a very interestingtime.LW:You must know the Duvachelles…CB: You know all the De dises and De dats. Yeah. And Jimmy’s still a very good friend of mine. I love himto death. But you know it was just a fabulous experience.LW:Now why… was that?
