Giving Back to the CommunityWe give back to the greater community in a variety ofways, including sponsorships, in-kind donations, education,free services and patient financial assistance. Many of ourprograms are designed to further our Mission to Save Livesand Promote Healthy Living. We strive to provide healthcare for those in need, regardless of their ability to pay forservices. In most instances, these programs are offered atlittle or no cost.Because we are in the business of caring for ourcommunity, our first priority is to provide compassionatecare to all; no one is turned away at the door due to theirfinancial circumstances. “Charity Care” includes financialassistance in the form of free or discounted health services.We absorb the cost of care provided to medically indigentpersons who meet specific criteria and lack the ability to pay.We also offer a broad scope of “Community Health”improvement programs such as childbirth education forexpectant parents; no-cost health screenings at the AnnualHealth Fair; “Slide Safe-Dress Smart” safety education forregional elementary students; “It’s Your Choice”demonstration for area teens; student sports physicals;Home of Champions Rodeo Sports Medicine and StudentAthletic Enhancement Camps. Many of these programsfocus on injury prevention and wellness.2012 Community Benefit $2,026,507“Community Building Activities” protect or improveour community’s health and safety. Our support of theBeartooth Children’s Center and other youth mentoringprograms, DSVS, disaster preparedness, and public healthemergency activities such as disease surveillance areincluded in this category. Our participation in the CarbonCounty Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC),where collaboration with other entities throughout thecounty leads to improved emergency response also fallsunder this umbrella.Many of our doctors, nurses and care givers offerCommunity Benefit through their tireless work with localFire, EMS and Ski Patrol departments in the HealthProfessionals Education segment of Community Benefit.Bad Debt and Medicare/Medicaid Shortfalls roundout the funds allocated to Community Benefit. Bad Debtis any uncollectable expense for services rendered to apatient in which the patient chooses not to pay after areasonable length of time, regardless of their ability to pay.Medicare/Medicaid reimburses Beartooth the cost toprovide health care to certain patients, although typicallynot at 100% of cost. This shortfall is also reported underthe “Community Benefit” umbrella.The cost of our Community Benefit components isshown below.17th Annual Beartooth BallThis year the Annual Beartooth Ball proceeds benefiting theFoundation Endowment Fund were $69,611.
