MICHAEL DEAGOSTINOPHOTOS | GRAND TRAVERSE RESORT AND SPALIFESTYLE | Renewed: The Iconic Tower at Grand Traverse Resort and SpaGrand Traverse Resort Tower Construction –1985The recently completed $7 million interior renovation of all 186 guestrooms in Acme’s iconic Tower at Grand Traverse Resort and Spa just outsideTraverse City has given the rooms a completely new look with designelements that were greatly influenced by the Resort’s guests.“We listened to our guests, including meeting guests and leisureguests, we directly incorporated their desires and really reflected theirwishes in the design,” Director of Sales Ryan Buck, explained.Among the top requests: space, light, and great Internet connectivity.The rooms have all that, and then some. Everything in the rooms has afresh contemporary design combined with the unmatched view of GrandTraverse Bay, the surrounding countryside, and the multitude of amenitiesthe Resort offers.The project started in early February and was completed in June. Itencompassed all 16 floors, including hospitality parlors. The principaldesign firm was Niemann Interiors of Winter Park, Fl.While the exterior of the Tower remains an unchanged skyline landmarkand mirror on Northern Michigan because of its stunning glass panels,the rooms present a view previously reserved for someone in a hot air balloon.Redstone Architects, Inc., of Bloomfield Hills, MI, served as the originalarchitects when the Tower celebrated its grand opening in 1986.“The Tower has proven to be a great experience for our guests fromdistant locations as well as our local community.” Buck added.Niemann Interiors delivered what they called “relaxedluxury” with a palette that puts a contemporary spin on relaxedliving and reflects the Northern Michigan experience, from thesand of beaches to the green of fairways and fall colors seen ona wine tour; even the gray-brown sunburst pattern of Petoskeystones was incorporated.In addition, rich dark wood finishes mix with weatheredwood finishes, while fall colors, creamy whites and pops of bluesblend serenely together to bring what is outside the glass insideand translates to all four seasons.“We listened to our guests,including meeting guestsand leisure guests, wedirectly incorporated theirdesires and really reflectedtheir wishes in the design.”The renovation work was completed in as minimally invasivea way as possible, a few floors at a time, allowing the Resortto accommodate guests on floors not being renovated during theproject.The 900 acre Resort includes top notch championship golfon three courses highlighted by The Bear, a Jack Nicklaus signaturedesign. Other facilities include indoor and outdoor tennis,a 100,000 square foot Health Club, full service Spa, diverse andelegant dining options including the 16th floor Aerie Restaurant,the uniquely upscale Gallery of Shops, 86,000 square feet ofmeeting space, and a vibrant Club Membership program filledwith area residents.Grand Traverse Resort Tower Room – 2015The Resort’s Tower is one part of a diverse package ofaccommodations that include 240 guest rooms in the original sixstoryHotel and 160 Condominiums nestled along the fairways ofthe three golf courses and East Grand Traverse Bay.“We are unique here,” says Buck. “We have the whole pureNorthern Michigan atmosphere, but Traverse City in its own wayis urban and hip.
