Before the workshopBefore the workshop you will want to familiarizeyourself with the results of the AHS. The prov<strong>in</strong>cialresults are available <strong>in</strong> A Picture of <strong>Health</strong>:Highlights from the 2008 <strong>BC</strong> Adolescent <strong>Health</strong>Survey. The results for your local <strong>Health</strong> ServiceDelivery Area are also available at www.mcs.bc.ca.You may also want to consult with local youthworkers, school nurses, students, pr<strong>in</strong>cipals, andParent Advisory Committee members to ensurethe workshop is geared to the current issues andhealth concerns fac<strong>in</strong>g local students.Additional support with deliver<strong>in</strong>g this workshop isalso available from McCreary’s <strong>Youth</strong> Participationstaff at 604-291-1996 ext. 222.6FacilitatorYou will need one primary facilitator to run the workshop.It may also be helpful to have a second facilitator availableto take notes and keep score of the AHS trivia quiz.If you are look<strong>in</strong>g for someone to facilitate your NextSteps classroom workshop, try to recruit adults who work<strong>in</strong> the field of youth engagement, who are <strong>in</strong>terested <strong>in</strong>youth health or who are <strong>in</strong>terested <strong>in</strong> hear<strong>in</strong>g youth’sperspectives. Ideally, try to f<strong>in</strong>d adults who haveexperience <strong>in</strong> work<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> partnership with youth or whoare <strong>in</strong> decision mak<strong>in</strong>g positions.ParticipantsThis workshop is designed for a classroom audience withstudents <strong>in</strong> grades 7-12.It can be used with younger and older students and withyoung people outside the classroom sett<strong>in</strong>g. If you wouldlike some assistance to adapt this for a differentaudience please contact nextsteps@mcs.bc.caLayoutIf you are us<strong>in</strong>g your regular classroom, you may want toarrange the chairs <strong>in</strong> a circle, or let the students sit onthe floor. If you choose to use the powerpo<strong>in</strong>t ensure theroom is layed out so that everyone can see the slides.EvaluationWe have <strong>in</strong>cluded a number of evaluation forms <strong>in</strong> theWorkshop Resources section: the <strong>Youth</strong> and AdultParticipant Feedback Forms and the Coord<strong>in</strong>atorFeedback Form (pages 36-43). These should becompleted at the end of the workshop.Please return copies to McCreary.
