Aruba’s annual National Beach Tennis Championships are 

held over three days at the lively Moomba Beach. Often called “X- 

Tennis,” beach tennis is a mixture of tennis and volleyball. Played on a 

volleyball court, players use tennis racquets to hit a ball over the net 

without letting it bounce. (May 29-June 1)

On St. John’s Day (or “Dera Gai”), the image of the rooster is seen 

all over Aruba. Festive songs, bright yellow and red costumes and 

traditional dances surround the annual festival. Dating back to 1862, 

Dera Gai is celebrated on the Feast of St. John the Baptist to give
