Welcome to our 43rd year. Next spring we will hold 

our 40th consecutive Bull Sale and we intend to make it 

memorable for all, but first let’s have a great 2012 Fall Female 

Sale and make it the best ever. I think our line up this year is 

exceptional with many front pasture animals, I don’t think you 

can go anywhere in the world and find a Flechvieh influenced 

sale with the quality which will be on display. 

As in the past few years we welcome the Fleck Forum sale 

and as we did last year we are proud to host the Quebec 

Section who brought such a powerful consignment. Although 

Gibbons Farms has been a regular consignor, this year is 

different as health reasons dictate that Vaughn has to reduce 

and is offering the very top of the herd at the sale. 

We have a special section. This offering is some of the best 

polled Fleckvieh genetics anywhere in the world by our long 

time friend Jeff Knox from Australia. 

If you are looking for bred heifers to bolster your herd or to 

replace a number of cows you wish to move on. You will find 

a fantastic choice. 

We are again offering up front a proven herd sire in the prime 

of his life along with five potential upcoming bull calves 

selected as the pick of this year’s older bull calves.

consécutive et nous avons l’intention de la rendre mémorable 

pour tous. Mais tout d’abord, ayons une excellente vente 

de femelles 2012 et faisons en sorte qu’elle soit la meilleure 

de toutes. Nous pensons que notre offre de cette année est 

exceptionnelle avec des animaux de haut calibre. Nous 

croyons que vous ne trouverez nulle part ailleurs au monde 

une vente de femelles avec une influence Fleckvieh de plus 

grande qualité que celles qui seront exposées. 

Comme nous l’avons fait au cours des dernières années, nous 

accueillons la vente Fleck Forum, et comme l’an dernier, nous 

sommes fiers d’être l’hôte de la section du Québec qui présente 

des consignations très puissantes. Bien que Gibbons Farms 

ait été un consignataire régulier, la situation est différente 

cette année puisque des raisons de santé exigent que Vaughn 

réduise sa participation et offre les meilleurs sujets du 

troupeau à la vente. 

Nous avons une section spéciale. Cette offre est composée 

de certains sujets représentant la meilleure génétique acère 

Fleckvieh au monde présentée par notre ami de longue date 

Jeff Knox de l’Australie. 

Si vous recherchez des taures gestantes pour renforcer votre 

troupeau ou pour remplacer un nombre de vaches que vous 

souhaitez déplacer, vous trouverez un choix fantastique. 

Encore une fois, nous mettons de l’avant un taureau d’étable

avec un beau potentiel sélectionnés parmi les meilleursveaux

This is followed by a selection of this year’s heifer calves 

also from the older group consisting of a couple of complete 

outcrosses along with some very interesting pedigrees. 

As we have done in the past, we are also offering a great 

selection of proven bred cows to be calved out and then 

flushed if that is your choice. This also includes Knox Farms 

bred cows that were selected in the past as some of the best 

polled animals for sale. They are also proven flush cows that 

produced well and just waiting for some new buyer to make a 

name for himself. 

Don’t forget Saturday. Come to the Semen and Embryo Sale as 

well for a Thanksgiving Dinner and a good deal of fellowship 

and fun. 

This will be Bar 5’s first sale as endorsed by the FSFF and we 

are proud to have been selected for this honor.

année qui proviennent aussi du groupe plus âgé comptant 

une couple de sujets non apparentés ainsi que quelques 

généalogies très intéressantes. 

Comme nous l’avons fait dans le passé, nous offrons aussi 

une excellente sélection de vaches saillies prêtes à vêler et 

à produire des embryons si vous le souhaitez. Cela inclut 

également des vaches saillies de Knox Farms qui ont été 

sélectionnées dans le passé comme les meilleurs sujets acères 

mis en vente. Il y a aussi de bonnes productrices d’embryons 

ayant fait leurs preuves qui attendent simplement qu’un 

nouvel acheteur se fasse connaître. 

N’oubliez pas les activités de samedi. Venez à la vente de 

semence et d’embryons, et assistez au repas de l’Action de 

grâces où il y aura beaucoup de camaraderie et de plaisir. 

Nous tiendrons la première vente de Bar 5 telle qu’endossée

Bar 5 Farms is located approximately 2 hours north of Pearson 

International Airport. At Pearson International Airport all major 

rental car companies are available to rent from. Grey Bruce Airport 

Shuttle (www.greybruceairbus.com) is a shuttle service that 

operates from the Toronto airport to Markdale and back. Their 

schedule can be found on their website to arrange transportation to 

Markdale. We will need to be notified in advance to pick you up at 

the depot. From there you can either arrange a car pool with others 

or we can arrange for you to get to your hotel.

One of the originals!! Not a very common pedigree on the sire side. Excellent 

feet and legs. Eight consecutive breeding seasons, without a problem and still 

walks like a young bull. One of Semex’s premier Service bulls. He is one of a 

few bulls that actually cleans up a lot of questionable udders in cows. Low to 

medium frame, calving ease, well tempered. He proves himself year after year 

and produces long spine deep stylish females and bulls full of performance with 

great muscle shape. Excellent bull to cover maximum cows for years to come. If 

you ever wanted to own a “Bentley” here is your chance.

Again this year we are offering the pick of the older bull calves, for those of you who can’t 

make our Spring Bull Sale or for those who want to make sure they have their bull battery 

ready to go early in the New Year. The buyers have the choice of taking the calf home 

now or leaving him here in our BIO Test Station until February. The cost is $900 which 

includes all Test Station fees. 

Lot 4 has been entered in The North American International Livestock Exposition in 

Louisville, Kentucky, November 14, 2012. If the new owner wants us to show him, we 

will at our expense. The buyer must insure all animals after the sale if we are going to

Welcome to our 18th Annual Fleckvieh Forum Sale 

Once again it is a privilege for me, on behalf of our Forum group to welcome you to our “18th Annual Fleckvieh 

Forum Sale” held again this year at the Bar 5 sales facility October 7th. Your tremendous support and enthusiasm 

from across Canada and the U.S. for our Fleckvieh genetics, is in many ways over whelming. We will have 

Fleckvieh genetics from Prince Edward Island to Ontario here in central Canada for your selection. With the Bar 

5 line up plus many consigners, we are expecting in excess of 100 animals and we believe this will be one of the 

largest selections of solely Fleckvieh genetics in one location anywhere in North America this year. 

Fleckvieh Forum was, and is the original Eastern Canada Fleckvieh Classic sale started in 1994 and is still going 

strong 18 years later and counting. 

It is another one of those very hot and dry summers - dried up pastures with hay in short supply. It now seems 

to be the normal condition here in the east as I write this. However, we feel that help is on the way. From the 

Igenity web site, the Fleckvieh strain is, they tell us, the most feed efficient beef cattle breed worldwide. From our 

work with Igenity, several of our animals within our Forum Group will have a genomic profile that includes feed 

efficiency data available sale day. We believe these feed efficient Fleckvieh genetics can help us down the road in 

dealing with extreme drought conditions and /or high feed costs. 

We are again very excited about this year’s line up. The quality as in the past is high. Those hard to part with 

females will be in the sale ring come October 7th. If you could find a way to attend, it would be our pleasure 

to share with you some of our “old fashioned” eastern hospitality. If for some reason you are unable to attend

We imported Starr’s granddam from the U.S. back in 1998 and she worked here for 12 years. Unfortunately we lost her to milk fever 2 days after Starr’s 

dam Stella was born. Despite being orphaned at 2 days, Stella has turned out to be, we believe an impressive individual and proof of this shows in her

It is with a great deal of pride that we again offer semen from our homozygous polled bull “Equinox” to our beef industry. We started traveling down the 

road of developing polled genetics back in 1999, and the winding trail has led us to our herd sire “Equinox”. First off, we sent semen to Applecross and Bar 

None in Alberta to assist us in our evaluation of this promising young sire. APLX Ensign was the first offspring to sell by auction. At the Red Deer bull sale 

in March 2011, he topped the fullblood section of the sale selling to the Langer family of Edson for $8000.00. 

Our confidence in Equinox is based on 5 generations of Dora Lee breeding and 56 offspring born here in the last 3 years with virtually no calving problems. 

Last year we sold all his daughters born in 2010 into 3 provinces as we just wanted to get his daughters out there and working. From his 2011 crop we are 

retaining 5 daughter for our own herd. Some of the traits we believe Equinox will bring to your herd are outcross polled genetics, 100% polled offspring, eye 

pigmentation, maternal calving ease, muscling and the quietest disposition of any bull we’ve had on the place and it shows up in his offspring. 

Equinox is becoming known internationally, as we have exported semen to several states in the U.S., to Sweden and as I write this, Equinox is back in stud 

filling an order for a breeder in South Africa. 

Equinox has been 11 years in the making and we believe has much to contribute to our beef industry. We are of the opinion that Equinox is on his way to 

becoming one of the elite bulls on the market today within our Fleckvieh breed. We are offering 30 straws of semen. Buyer can purchase 5, 10, 20, or all 30 if

Eclipse continues to impress more and more each year as his 6th calf crop has arrived. It is very rewarding for us as the positive comments are continuing to 

come in all the way from Arkansas, to Sweden, to Alberta and from many of our customers here in Ontario. These are some of the traits we feel Eclipse will 

add to your herd, - outcross polled genetics, non diluter, calving ease, maternal calving ease, awesome disposition, performance, pigmentation and fertility. 

Eclipse was 9 years in the making and certainly worth the time and money we spent in development. 

We now have 8 Eclipse daughters working in our herd here at Dora Lee. We firmly believe that the true test of just how good a bull is, is when you have 

daughters out there getting it done year after year. Case in point, one of our Eclipse daughters, Stella (DLD 27W) has a daughter Starr, (DLD 27Y) in this 

year’s sale’s line up. She is a heifer hard for us to part with. Yet the point we are attempting to make is, Eclipse will produce the good ones be it bulls 

or cows. 

There is no doubt in our mind that, Eclipse is among the elite sires available. He is now working in the Lyons herd and at 7 years of age is still very 

youthful, moving around like you would expect a one or two year old. Eclipse semen is in limited supply with less than 100 straws left and we believe this 

very well may be your last opportunity to add Eclipse genetics to your herd. Semen is stored at Eastgen, is EU qualified and is exportable to most countries

Bid: Every animal consigned to the sale will be sold by auction to 

highest bidder. 

Disputes: In case of disputes, bidding will be reopened between 

the parties involved if no further bid is made, the buyer will 

be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. 

The Auctioneer`s decision in such matters will be final. The 

Auctioneer shall have the right to refuse bids from anyone who 

has a previous record of default in payment or who has not made 

proper credit clearance prior to the sale. 

Purchaser’s Risk: Each animal becomes the risk of the 

purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the 

purchaser`s risk for a reasonable length of time. 

Announcements: Announcements from the auction block will 

take precedence over the printed matter in this catalogue. Buyers 

are therefore cautioned to pay attention to such announcements. 

Certificate of Registry: The proper Registration or Recordation 

paper, as the case may be, will be duly transferred and furnished. 

BREEDERS GUARANTEE 

BULLS: Should any bull fourteen (14) months of age or over, fail 

to prove a breeder after being used on cows know to be breeders, 

the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within six (6) 

months following date of purchase or six (6) months after the bull 

has reached fourteen (14) months of age. The seller will have the 

right and privilege of six (6) months to prove the bull a breeder. 

No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will be 

suitable for artificial insemination. 

Notice to Buyers 

FEMALES: Cows represented as being “pregnancy tested, 

safe in calf” have been examined and declared by a licensed 

veterinarian and will be accompanied by a veterinarian’s 

certificate to the effect. They are considered breeders without 

further guarantee. Cows with calves at side shall be considered 

breeders also without further guarantee; cows and heifers 

represented at “bred” are not guaranteed safe in calf but they 

are open heifers selling as individual lots are guaranteed to 

be breeders. No guarantee shall apply to sucking calves. In 

the event a female is claimed to be a non-breeder, after having 

been bred regularly to a bull known to be a breeder and after 

having been treated by a licensed veterinarian, the matter must 

be reported in writing to the seller within six (6) months of sale 

date. For heifers under twelve (12) months of age and purchased 

as a single lots and who fail to conceive to the services of a bull 

known to be a breeder, the matter must be reported in writing to 

the seller before the heifer reaches eighteen (18) months of age. 

The seller shall have six (6) additional months in which to prove 

any such female a breeder and may use any registered bull of 

the breed available to him. Any female returned will be at the 

purchaser’s risk. No guarantee is given that a pregnant female 

will deliver live calves nor that she will carry calves full term 

not that the calf carried will not be mummified. The seller is not 

responsible for damage caused by foreign bodies after the animal 

has been sold or for sickness not apparent at sale time. 

Exception of Guarantee: In cases where the animal is subjected to 

hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, the 

guarantee shall be null and void. 

Settlement: TRANSPORTATIONS CHARGES ON ANIMALS 

RETURNED TO THE SELLER ARE FOR ACCOUNT OF THE 

PURCHASER. No incidental expenses such as feed, A.I. signing 

fees, interest, veterinary charges, etc., will be charged by either 

party when making settlement. If the seller is successful in 

proving the animal a breeder, the said animal will be reclaimed 

by the purchaser at his expense. Should the seller fail to prove 

the animal a breeder, then the buyer is guaranteed a satisfactory 

replacement, F.O.B. ranch or location of origin or a refund of the 

actual purchase price paid F.O.B. selling point. In no event shall 

the seller by responsible for more than the purchase price. Should 

a dispute arise over the quality of the replacement animal, the 

Sales Management will appoint a mediator. 

Health: All animals will have passed the required tests as 

determined by Agriculture Canada at sale location. It is the 

buyer’s responsibility to determine health requirements for 

importing any animal into his province, state or country. 

Accidents: Although every precaution will be taken to protect 

the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the Owners, Sales 

Management, nor Staff, assume any responsibility in this matter 

and disclaims any liability legal or otherwise in the event of 

accident or loss of property. 

Rights and Obligations: The above terms and conditions of the 

sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and the seller 

and be equally binding to both. Resale of animals following 

purchase in this sale shall constitute a separate transaction and 

the rights and obligations of both parties connected thereto are 

not covered by the terms and conditions of this sale.
