Special Children’s League and Psi Delta Sigma UCP is the fortunate recipient of the hard work and dedication of two auxiliary groups, the Special Children’s League, Inc. (SCL) and Psi Delta Sigma, Inc. Special Children’s League was founded in 1946 as a volunteer organization dedicated to furthering the cause of all people with developmental disabilities. There are three active SCL committees (Foothill, South Bay and Whittier) that raise funds for UCP through special events, silent auctions and other activities. Psi Delta Sigma was founded in 1921 as a national social group of women with a charitable purpose of supporting United Cerebral Palsy. Today there are seven chapters exclusively in Southern California. The SCL committees and Psi Delta Sigma chapters together continue to raise thousands of dollars every year for UCP and continue to foster their goals of helping individuals with developmental disabilities. Community Involvement In addition to the work that UCP does for the developmentally disabled communities in Southern California, our community involvement efforts include: • On-going volunteer program with Notre Dame High School students, with a focus on Respect for the Challenged. • A UCP art exhibit, which was open to the public at the Santa Monica Pier Carousel, showcased client artwork and photographs of UCP’s clients and programs. • Company wide food and toy drive during the holiday season. • UCP clients participate in a Meals On Wheels program to deliver food to homebound seniors. • UCP clients volunteer at ONEgeneration in Van Nuys to assist with the lunch program. • UCP WORK, Inc. clients give back weekly to the community of Isla Vista in Santa Barbara as part of the Adopt-a-Block program where they assist in maintaining the neighborhood.
