GAIN<br />

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is a global and regional alliance of<br />

public, private and civil society partners committed to eliminating vitamin and<br />

mineral deficiencies. By 2007, GAIN aims to have contributed to the improved<br />

nutritional status of at least 600 million people in up to 40 developing countries,<br />

primarily through facilitating fortification of commonly available and consumed local<br />

foods. GAIN also aims to energise and harmonise the work of governments, bilateral<br />

donors, UN agencies, the private sector as well as public health and development<br />

organisations working to reduce micronutrient malnutrition.<br />

UNDP<br />

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the UN's global development<br />

network, advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience<br />

and resources to help people build better lives. UNDP is active in 166 countries,<br />

working with them on developing and implementing their own solutions to global and<br />

national development challenges. World leaders have pledged to achieve the<br />

Millennium Development Goals, including the overarching goal of cutting poverty in<br />

half by 2015. UNDP's network links and coordinates global and national efforts to<br />

reach these goals.<br />

IAEA<br />

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is the global focal point for nuclear<br />

cooperation within the United Nations family. Its programme, dedicated to helping its<br />

Member States achieve their social and economic goals, is focused on many activities<br />

that serve basic human needs by applying nuclear science to improve health care<br />

(nutrition, cancer treatment, communicable diseases etc.), increase food production,<br />

improve management of water resources and assess sources of environmental<br />

pollution.<br />
