These works were created in my darkroom through the mixing of chemicals, and
through their temperature changes, as well as water and light temperature
variations on emulsified paper. It is a long and complex creative process, which
has to be realized speedily and dynamically while considering the right amount of
chemicals, movements, and time. This technique is based on the concept of cause
and effect and on the dialectics between my action on matter and its reaction to
it, but I also give vent to a high percentage of non-deterministic mechanisms and
to the typical uncertainty of quantum mechanics. These works are narrating
bright, fantastic landscapes, psychological distortions, epiphanies, déjà vu,
dreamlike visions, as well as flashbacks. They are undecided, imbued with light,
even though they are paradoxically realized in the total absence of light.
Epiphany è una serie di opere realizzate in camera oscura attraverso
sovrapposizioni di sostanze chimiche, variazioni di temperatura di quest’ultime,
dell’acqua e fonti luminose su carte emulsionate. Il processo di realizzazione è
spesso lungo e complesso, ma va gestito con velocità e dinamicità, tenendo conto
delle giuste dosi dei chimici, dei movimenti, dei tempi. La tecnica è basata sul
concetto di causa-effetto e sulla visione dialettica tra gli input che io do alla
materia e la sua capacità di reazione, lasciando però ampio margine ad una
percentuale di meccanismi non deterministici e sfumature tipici della fisica
quantistica. Narrano paesaggi luminosi, fantastici, distorsioni della psiche,
epifanie, déjà vu, visioni oniriche e flashback. Sono ambivalenti, intrisi di luce e,
paradossalmente, vengono realizzati nella quasi totale assenza di essa.
