Sunday, October 24, 2010 · 1:00 p.m. · Manhattan, KS
Welcome to the fourth Gold Bullion Sale of 24k Females at Brooks
Simmentals. It is our pleasure to offer this set of „herd-building‟ females
together for you. We are offering purebred Simmental and SimAngus open
heifers, bred heifers, cow-calf pairs, a few donor cows, and a few quality
embryos.
Our sale has become known as a “Sale that is an Event” as it only happens
every other year. We believe that you will really like our sale offering
because we sure think we are selling some really good ones.
We have raised these cattle in the great Flint Hills of Kansas, which is some
of the most beautiful and highest quality warm-season native grass in the
world. Our shared goal is to provide the kind of cattle that work in most
environments and will make you proud and financially rewarded for owning
them. We each have somewhat individual breeding programs and use a
variety of sires, and we truly feel that there is something in this sale for
different breeding programs and interests. Herds from which these 24k
females were bred have produced show winners, AI stud sires, elite donors,
great commercial bulls, and performance-oriented cattle that are functional.
These genetics come from producers with many, many years of experience
and success in breeding and marketing cattle in the real-world, beefproduction
environment of Kansas.
We are committed to Performance, Excellence, and Integrity. Our Gold
Bullion group brings combined experience from the show ring, the classroom,
research, the feed yard, and retail sales.
Thanks to all of our past buyers. We intend to do everything we can to
continue to satisfy our customers and attract new ones. A video of all females
in the sale will be on our Web site in October.
We look forward to offering you lunch and seeing you sale day.
It would be easy to write a book about this elite donor, but to keep it
simple I will describe her with one word—awesome. We have been
overwhelmed by the number of breeders who have praised this great
female and feel honored to be able to offer her genetics to you.
Beloved has a long list of accomplishments and few cows of any
breeds can match her dimension, mass, beauty, and grace. If you
are serious about owning the best, then be sure to not miss this
opportunity. Embryo work will be conducted at Cross Country
Genetics in late October/earlyNovember. The seller will guarantee
six transferable embryos with no cap. Seller will pay flushing and
boarding costs. Buyer will be responsible for supplying semen on the
bull of their choice and the transfer of embryos and freezing expense.
Not all purple winning show heifers turn out to be great cows, but this
one sure did. She has a perfect build, excellent udder and pedigree
that allows us to mate her with various sires. Her dam, SFI Kandi
Kisses, continues to produce great progeny and her grand dam
weaned her last calf at 17 years of age. That’s called longevity and
proof that this cow family has been bred for productivity. The seller
will pay flushing expenses and guarantee six transferrable embryos
with no cap. The buyer will provide semen and pay freezing and
transfer expenses. Work will be done at Cross Country Genetics in
November/December 2010.
correctness. Sired by the great Triple C Invasion
The sire of Manifest ranks in the top 1% for yearling weight,
marbling, API and TI. This is the only Manifest female we
have. Look her over. She has a great disposition and powerful
EPDs.
Legacy Lady is the natural calf of our newest donor, Brooks
Miss Super Star, owned with Cline Cattle Company. Super
Star was a $9000 seller in our 2008 sale. Legacy Lady is
clean-fronted and long sided with excellent structure. Look at
the pedigree Dream On and 11G. She will show and make a
great cow.
The Gold Bullion 24 Karat Female Sale Consignors
Brooks Simmentals was started in 1986 when I purchased two black Simmental cows and
today that has grown to 70. Cattle and land are owned together with my parents, John and
Wilma Brooks. AI has been used from the beginning and ET was started in 1997. Today,
most calves are produced through ET and it has become a major factor in upgrading my
program. I have enjoyed showing cattle and have had champions at the Kansas State Fair and
the Kansas Beef Expo, but raising show cattle is not my goal. My objective is to raise cattle
that are polled, solid colored, and very functional for use in the commercial market with a
strong emphasis on carcass quality.
Ralph Brooks
We began using Simmental semen in 1971 and our herd has grown from 4 cows to about 55
breeding age females. Our children, Mark and Becca, showed Simmental heifers in state,
regional, and national Junior Classics; and both were on the KJSA and National AJSA Boards.
Michael served two terms on the ASA Board and led efforts to initiate ASA’s Total Herd
Enrollment, the Simmental ID system, and the Performance Advocate program.
We primarily work our cattle on foot with the aid of our Border Collie dog, Sugar, so disposition
is very important to us. We are both on the faculty at K-State; therefore, our cattle have to be easy
to handle with our limited time to manage them. Our primary goal is to produce bulls for
commercial cow-calf producers. We emphasize ’convenience traits’, total performance, and
maternal traits. Our moderate-sized herd of all AI sired, all polled, all black females are moderate
framed and functional in the Flint Hills environment. We balance phenotype, actual performance
and EPDs.
Earline, “Sugar” & Michael
Diamond D Simmentals was established in the Flint Hills near Manhattan, Kansas in
1968 By Calvin and Mary Louise Drake. Semen, imported from Canada, was used
on Angus and Polled Hereford cows to enhance the polled gene. Artificial
insemination has been used for 33 years. Easy-fleshing, polled, rapid-growing
females that calve easily are selected as replacement heifers. EPDs are used in
selection and carcass quality is stressed. Only AI sire having sound EPDs and
correct structure are selected. Both red and black cows comprise the herd of about
40 head. This is one of the earliest Simmental herds established in America still in
continuous operation. Calvin is a retired professor of Animal Science at Kansas
State University and spent several years in the cattle feeding industry.
Calvin & Mary Louise, “Cochise”,
Adryanna & Darren
Shane, Shilo, Scott & Kandi
The Schaake’s have been breeding Simmental cattle since 1974, after an introduction to
the breed when Scott showed the Grand Champion steer (Simmental x Hereford) at the
county fair. Artificially breeding our black cows to Simmental bulls gave us our start in
black-factored Simmental genetics in 1975. In fact, many of our leading cow families
trace back to “Chipper N726”, who defined the word “longevity” She remained a
productive donor cow to the age of 20 years. Currently our program utilizes artificial
insemination and embryo transfer. Selection pressure for calving ease, maternal
influence, moderate growth, disposition and a manageable mature size has been stressed
for several generations. Attention to structural correctness, fleshing ability and
marketing appeal has been a priority since day one.
