Hamburg’s Grand Hotel is situated in the heart of the city, directly on the Inner Alster
Lake in close proximity to excellent shopping facilities on the Jungfernstieg and the Neuen
Wall and only a few minutes walk from the Hamburg Opera and the Hamburg Congress

Opening
The hotel was founded in 1897 by the South-German gastronome Friedrich Haerlin and
was originally called the Vier Jahreszeiten. He purchased the narrow house with twelve
rooms and a restaurant on 24 February 1897, which was his 40 th birthday, paying 420.100
Marks.
Rooms & Suites
All 156 guest rooms and suites were refurbished in 2008, refitted to the highest standards
in an amazingly young and detailed design.
The design concept of the noble suites incorporates refined materials and hand-picked
antique objects. Four of the 33 suites are named after famous guests of the hotel: Maria
Callas, Prince Heinrich, Thomas Mann and Sir Peter Ustinov. Every suite has its own
unmistakeable style and is adorned with pictures, books and DVDs from their namesakes.
The Presidential suite on the fourth floor is unique. With a total of 260 m², it provides its
exclusive clientele with generous and unique luxury. The suite consists of three bedrooms,
an impressive living area and the adjacent Alster salon for hosting private banquettes or
meetings for up to twelve persons. One of the three bathrooms is fitted with a whirlpool
and a flat screen television set into the mirror. Moreover, the suite comes equipped with all
the technical refinements which the modern guest of today requires: Two BOSE stereo
systems, a DVD player with digital satellite TV, a Loewe flat screen HDTV television,
video on demand, a multi-media PC with a wireless keyboard and four laptop connections
for video conferencing satisfy all wishes. The suite can be combined with three further
double rooms.
The fifth floor - the so-called Bel Etage - is a true gem. All the rooms facing the Alster have
spacious balconies which invite the guest to relax in front of the breath-taking view of the
picturesque inner Alster.

Babies and children:
One child (up to the age of 12) stays in a room with his/her parents free of charge. For
children aged 13-18, we provide an extra bed for an additional charge of 40 €. Babies and
children also receive a special welcome: a dressing gown, cuddly toy, painting books and

Children between 0-5 enjoy a complementary breakfast; those between 6 -12 pay half price.

Restaurant Haerlin
The Restaurant Haerlin fully honours its name and great tradition; not without reason it is
the flag ship of all four restaurants in the Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten. It is a top class
gourmet restaurant with an elegant ambience, an exquisite table culture with fine porcelain
and silver and a perfect service, which is friendly and attentive accompanied by competent
advice. The restaurant is awarded with one Michelin Star and 17 Gault Millau points.

Doc Cheng’s ® is the name of our Euro-Asian restaurant. With its oriental woodcarvings,

treasure chest. The Euro-Asian restaurant “Doc Cheng’s ® ” is not to be missed on the
scene of Hamburg’s gastronomy. The 14 Gault Millau points awarded restaurant offers
creative Euro-Asian cuisine.

Bar Indochine
The Bar Indochine, seating 30, is slightly detached from the restaurant Doc Cheng’s ® . Our
Barkeeper mixes exquisite cocktails on a Sake basis as well as classic long drinks. At the Bar
Indochine the atmosphere and fixtures are reminders of the foregone times of the
Shanghai in the 1920s. In this bar smoking is permitted.

The Café Condi is especially well-known for the variety of its breakfast buffet. Whether à la

The Biedermeier café is the favourite place of Hamburg’s ladies for having lunch before or
resting after shopping. In the tradition of the Biedermeier style, the Condi offers a variety

The Jahreszeiten Deli is a step towards a new coffee shop culture. Besides world-famous

Wohnhalle - The Lounge
The Wohnhalle, situated at the ground floor, is a large, wood-panelled room, overlooking
the lake which features a woodburning fire place and is furnished with sofas and armchairs
providing the atmosphere of a turn-of-the-century country-house drawing room. It is
favourite for morning coffee, light lunches and afternoon tea.

Bar
This cosy bar over two floors is located just inside the hotel’s entrance. Fine classical and
international cocktails are served in a harmonic, relaxed and delighted atmosphere, where
smoking is permitted.

Jahreszeiten Terrace
The terrace offers seating for 80 guests and will be open daily. When temperatures are
cooler, external radiators shall provide pleasant warmth and a cosy place to sit and enjoy
first-class food and excellent service.
From noon to 22:00 hours the terrace kitchen will spoil guests with small snacks and
selected dishes, which reflects the gastronomic diversity of the hotel.

Banquet Facilities
Fully refitted with a digital multi-media system for all conventional video and audio signals,
two Hitachi ceiling left projectors, adjustable chandeliers, eight Bose mobile loudspeakers
and an innovative lighting concept, the event rooms provide a resplendent setting for
dinners for 2-200 people, cocktail receptions for up to 600 people and conferences for up
to 115 people.
Fitted with an eye for unique detail, and decorated in historic style, the rooms provide the

Elb Lounge
The Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten has been a partner of the private villa Elb Lounge on the
Elbchausee since March 2009. The villa was built in 1876 as the summer residence of the
Hamburg merchant Alderman Carl Ferdinand Carstens and today is one of the most
exclusive event locations in Hamburg. The manor house location specializes in exclusive
conferences and celebrations. The fantastic park provides the perfect surroundings for
barbeques, picnics, soirees and weddings. As partner to the Elb Lounge, the Fairmont Hotel

Did you know that water wings were invented in Hamburg by Bernhard Markwitz? In
1956 his three-year-old daughter had fallen into a goldfish pond. Following this incident, he
wrapped some inner tubes from a bicycle around her upper arms. When he won 253,000
DM in the lottery, he finally had the necessary means to get started. It was not until 1964,
though, that his water wings acquired their final shape and colour. Under the brand name
"BEMA" (for Bernhard Markwitz) more than 150 m. sets of water wings have been sold
preventing many children all over the world from drowning.
Did you know that the success story of the Beatles started in the early 1960's on the
"Grosse Freiheit", a street in Hamburg? It was here that they performed in various clubs,
among others the legendary "Star Club", establishing their reputation as a professional live
band. It was here that they created their typical haircuts. On 31 st of December 1962 the
Beatles performed for the last time in the Star Club - their legendary star had started to rise
- they were famous.
