At Daystar, we believe that with great
blessing comes a greater responsibility
to give back. For in giving, that is when
we are most like our heavenly father,
and what greater way to show the love
of Christ than to give to those who are
unable to give back to you.
In December, teams from Daystar
partnered together with a team from
Swappel to bless the residents of the
Arlington Life Shelter in Arlington, TX.
Along with catering a special Christmas
party, the teams were able to provide and
distribute new bedding, personal hygiene
kits, toys, new furnishings and books for
a facility library.
The Arlington Life Shelter was founded
in 1987 and provides comfortable refuge
for the working homeless – people who
struggle to make ends meet despite their
best efforts. Families and single adults
from all walks of life call this shelter
home.
By giving back to Arlington Life Shelter,
we not only helped ensure a special
Shelter Christmas for its staff and
residents, but we were equally blessed
to get to know the special men, women
and children who are currently being
assisted by the charitable organization.
And at the end of the day, each member
of our team left with the feeling that the
residents blessed us more than we could
have ever blessed them.
First, the resurrection is a proclamation
that Jesus is alive and present with us.
In the resurrection appearances, the
disciples experienced Jesus in their midst
(Lk. 24:36-43). He brought wholeness
to their stagnant spiritual lives. Today
his resurrection opens a window to the
ethos of grace and fulfillment as Christ
visits and fellowships with us, at the
dining table of our hearts. Luke’s story
of the ascension is not a declaration
of Jesus’ absence, but rather, Luke is
>
1 Corinthians 15:3-8
announcing that Jesus is now present
in each moment of our lives. Second, for
those in need, the resurrection of Christ
infuses the bruised and wounded heart with
spirit power, bringing relief to the ache of
unhappiness—helping the weary pilgrim
gain perspective and strength to journey to
a far better end than mere superficial relief
(Isa. 53:4-5). And, to those who live in
the deluded, distorted fog of pain, His
resurrection power will deliver and carry
you into new regions of joy; erupting in
the flowering change of new resurrected
beauty and the fruit of repentant
brokenness. Remember, child of God,
the ethos of the resurrection of Christ is
-- that it seeks to disrupt the status
quo of unfulfilled living, by bringing
wholeness and Zoe life to those whose
lives are wilted in the ultraviolet light of
unhappiness, bringing them back to the
heart of the Father and wholeness.
(Jn. 10:10)
