Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom
TASK
Design and build a heavily branded retail location for a regional
theme park.
SCOPE OF WORK
Following its purchase by Premier Parks, Kentucky Kingdom was
the first location to be converted to the Six Flags franchise. This
5,500 square foot retail facility played a principal role in delivering
the new Looney Tunes brand. In 62 days, WGI designed and
executed specialty finishes, fabrications and murals dealing with
new construction and renovation of existing space. Mixed use
occupancy required special construction detailing.
MAGIC SPRINGS & CRYSTAL FALLS
Hot Springs, AR
TASK
Design and build attractions and environments for a theme area
renovation based on the popular Nickelodeon cartoon characters.
SCOPE OF WORK
The dynamic conversion of an existing log flume to the Wild
Thornberrys River Adventure was accomplished by WGI through
a clever combination of artistic specialty painting and thematic
“plant-ons.” Thornberry style themeing including architectural
elements and large complex 3-D sculpts were prefabricated in
the WGI shop, shipped to the site and installed. This method
cut construction costs and reduced on-site construction time.
WGI also created the Rugrats Runaway Reptar Coaster thematic
package, successfully transforming this family attraction into a
Rugrats cartoon adventure. Against a whimsical drive-in setting,
WGI built a 20' fiberglass Reptar dinosaur climbing on a 12'
building. 3-D sculpts of the Rugrats characters are nearby in
various comical stages of excitement and anxiety.
TASK
Provide master planning and design coordination for an entire
park restoration project. Design and build all new construction
and renovations for the buildings, including a new water park.
SCOPE OF WORK
After sitting closed for several years, the deteriorated and overgrown
Magic Springs theme park was acquired by ThemeParks,
LLC. WGI was commissioned to accomplish a complete make-over
for the park which included a new water park, rides package,
new front entry plaza and more. WGI designed and built all of
the new and renovated buildings for the water park, ride stations,
food locations, stores and games. WGI successfully blended the
new and old parts of the park with the breathtaking natural
beauty of the surroundings.
BURGESS SHALE MUSEUM
British Columbia, Canada
TASK
Design and build the “African Journey,” an introductory zone that
leads guests toward a new six member gorilla habitat.
TASK
Create a storyline and design an expansion for an important
scientific location. Combine technical information with entertainment
value to create an effective guest experience.
SCOPE OF WORK
The most important fossil discovery of all time, the Burgess Shale,
commissioned WGI to double the size of their museum and
attraction space. The new 10,000 square foot facility will house
traditional and non-traditional exhibits as well as a restaurant and
merchandise shop. The project takes guests back to the Cambrian
Ocean Floor which requires a careful combination of entertainment
license and scientific data to create an engaging experience for
all ages.
SCOPE OF WORK
To begin the journey, WGI created the “Last Chance Bomossa
Market” complete with provisions, a vintage gas pump and
VW bus ready for the jungle trail. The excursion continues past
a Pygmy Hippo pool where WGI created a Shamba, an authentic
African hut where pottery, drums and masks can be seen.
As part of the gorilla exhibit itself, WGI designed and built a
treetop research station outfitting it with scientific equipment,
a laptop computer and jungle camping gear. The scope of work
also included rethemeing an existing elephant exhibit.
JUNKYARD WARS TRAVELLING SHOW
The Learning Channel
TASK
In six weeks time, construct a travelling set for the popular cable
television series, Junkyard Wars.
SCOPE OF WORK
The Learning Channel created a promotional event for kids
featuring their successful series, Junkyard Wars. Kids were invited
to “create” their own race cars by adding “junk” to a basic
car body. WGI built the imaginative race course through which
kids raced their vehicles. Requirements included ease of set up,
disassembly and transportation, while meeting a rigorous travel
schedule. WGI was selected for this project by the Becker Group.
SWAMPWATER JACK’S RESTAURANT
Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom
TASK
Design and build an animated clock for the main lobby to function
as an entertainment element and an icon for the hotel.
SCOPE OF WORK
The Great Wolf Lodge is a destination resort hotel featuring a large
indoor water park. The story of the Great Wolf is told through this
giant mystical timepiece with animatronic animals and human
figures. Unique features of the clock include dancing totem poles,
twirling finials, an original musical score and cascading waterfall.
The clock is an engaging marketing icon for the chain of hotels
and enhances the Great Wolf Lodge brand. A compelling memory
of the hotel is created for guests as the clock comes to life for
a fifteen minute song and dance show at strategic times during
the day.
TASK
Design and build a highly themed restaurant with a unique guest
experience for a regional theme park.
SCOPE OF WORK
To facilitate the immersive theme for this 8,000 square foot restaurant,
WGI created a mythical bayou character named Swampwater
Jack. The restaurant is Jack’s “stompin’ grounds,” and his story
is told through a collection of artifacts, images and memorabilia.
This fast-tracked project included complex site grading and fill,
building construction, fabrication of interior booths as well as
procurement of all furniture and equipment. Artistic treatments
and signage were designed and executed inside and out. An
extensive prop package was fabricated or procured and installed.
