Excel Fibre Technology - the global leader in cellulose fibre
A major force in fibre technology across the globe, Excel has mastered a manufacturing process which takes
waste paper and converts it to cellulose fibre for numerous applications and industries. We are accredited
to ISO 9001 (for quality management) and 14001 (for environmental standards), and our Europe-leading
business success has been founded on three core values, matched to the choices our customers make:
Enhance Performance | Add Value | Improve the Environment
reduces a building’s carbon footprint, sequestering
carbon from newspapers which would otherwise be
released at landfill.
WARMCEL 500 is installed by our BBA-inspected
network of trusted installers in such a way as to
achieve complete void fill, improving airtightness
in line with environmental targets without relying
loss from the building in the most cost-effective
manner. In this way, stringent Part L targets can
be met with less reliance on green technology
offsetting or non-standard wall thicknesses.
WARMCEL 500 provides ‘U’-values beyond current
typical constructions achieving values of between
WARMCEL 500®
Manufactured from recycled newsprint and featuring a negative Global Warming Potential,
WARMCEL 500 is the first choice for environmentally-friendly building projects.
Carbon is sequestered when it is locked inside
the fabric of a material rather than being emitted
into the atmosphere as a greenhouse gas (such
as when newspapers release methane at landfill).
WARMCEL 500 sequesters more carbon within its
fabric – and therefore within buildings – than is used
in its manufacture, transport, installation and even
eventual removal, making it the ideal choice for a
sustainable future in construction.
In addition, all WARMCEL 500 products are 100%
reusable and recyclable, meaning once a building
has reached the end of its life, the insulation keeps
on benefiting the environment.
The most
sustainable
Insulation
WARMCEL 500 and the environment
The principle of closed
loop recycling is to keep
carbon within a given
system, preventing
it from escaping
and creating an
environmental burden.
For example, Excel often
works with schools,
encouraging their staff,
pupils and communities
to recycle newspaper for
use in WARMCEL 500
insulation, which may
then be used within new
school buildings. Excel
aspires to reproduce this
closed loop recycling
methodology worldwide.
Better than zero carbon
Reduce cold bridging
‘Aim Lower’ is Excel’s message to all developers. Why target zero carbon construction when
you can aim lower with WARMCEL 500, building in a manner which not only has a low carbon
footprint, but actively benefits the environment?
• Better than zero carbon, with a GWP of
-1.5 (based on installation in walls)
• 100% recycled newsprint, diverting from
landfill and locking in carbon
• ‘U’–values exceed building regulation
thermal performance
• Low embodied energy costs, with an
inherently low carbon footprint
• Airtight installation means energy is not
wasted from buildings
• Used to achieve many BREEAM ‘Excellent’
ratings
AIRTIGHT
INSULATE RIGHT!
WARMCEL 500 boasts complete void fill and inherently low air permeability, resulting in
better airtightness. This makes environmental targets easier to hit first time, and offers
lower fuel costs for building owners.
• Reduce heat energy wastage from buildings
• Enhance efficiency of renewable energy
• Reduce requirement for offsetting technology
• Meet targets first time to avoid re-testing costs
• No need for non-standard wall thicknesses

Damp Spray TurboFill
Dry Injection Open Blow
For open panel walls,
WARMCEL 500 may be
applied via damp spraying
and levelling off to the
depth of the studs, with no
voids even around pipework.
The system uses air to
directly pump WARMCEL
500 into void between the
inner and outer sheathing
boards of a closed panel
wall unit.
Closed panel
structures may also be
filled with a lance/hose
system inserted into a
suitable hole, directly
filling the cavity.
In loft applications, this
method ensures total
loft coverage, making
it easy to achieve
complete fill between
and over joists.
An unprotected downlighter is an open path for energy to pass
from the living area and be lost into the loft space, negating the
airtight effect of the installed insulation.
A single downlighter can pass 20m 3 per hour at a standard 50Pa
pressure, which can prevent desired airtightness levels being
achieved - even if the rest of the building is perfectly airtight.
An unprotected downlighter can act as a hot chimney and
actually draw heated air from the room, plus the heat generated
by the lamp itself is also mainly lost into the loft space.
If a downlighter is not protected then insulation must be
removed from around it to prevent overheating: this produces a
significant gap in the insulation continuity and loss of heat.
CoverLIght solves all of the above problems with one easyto-install
product.
WARMCEL Novia RV600 is a technologically advanced reflective air-tight vapour check membrane, designed for use as an air
leakage barrier and vapour control layer (AVCL) for all insulated walls, roofs and floors. By using new production processes,
Novia has produced a reflective AVCL that delivers a carefully chosen vapour permeability, which helps to prevent any surface
condensation problems that may occur, and yet still remains highly reflective and so delivers greatly improved r and u-values.
