Technical Skills
Training
Training Services

Tailored technical training
A focused yet flexible approach lets us develop safe, competent
and job-ready technicians for the oil & gas industry.
Petrofac Training Services
is part of the Petrofac Group,
a major player in the oil &
gas industry. Our unique
perspective is the reason we
don’t just provide customers
an off-the-shelf programme as
a matter of course. We make
sure that however we train your
personnel – and in whichever
technical discipline – it’s the
most appropriate and fit-forpurpose
solution for your
organisation.
Conducting a training needs analysis
allows us to identify the most suitable
solution. We’ll discuss with you how
many personnel require training, at
what level and over what timescale; the
practical skills and any accreditations
required; and the means of assessment.
All training begins with a baseline
assessment to establish the starting
level of competence. We repeat this
post-training to verify levels of
competence achieved.
We train technicians at every level –
from school leavers and graduates
entering the workplace to established
personnel in need of upskilling. Although
we can deliver short course training –
such as the five-day Permit to Work
course – most of our customers engage
us on a long-term, project-driven basis.
We can deliver Training for Trainers
to organisations with ongoing needs.
For non-English speakers, we can
provide both basic and technical English
language training. We can also deliver
training in Arabic, Russian and a variety
of other languages.
Organisations working towards workforce
nationalisation targets rely on our global
reach and local knowledge. New entrants
to the industry may come to a role
straight out of college, with plenty of
theoretical knowledge but little or no
practical experience. We bridge the gap
between education and work, providing
industry focused technical training that
delivers truly job-ready personnel.
We cover all oil & gas operations
and maintenance disciplines, as
well as a range of construction
skills disciplines:
Electrical
Mechanical
Instrumentation and Control
Process Operations
Our global reach and local
expertise together allow us to
deliver technical training to meet
your immediate needs. Wherever
technicians require training, we
can provide a real-life learning
environment for them – whether
at one of our own facilities, on
your premises or at another
location of your choice.
We deliver Operations, Maintenance and Construction
Skills training across the world, from key facilities in:
Baku, Azerbaijan – Caspian Technical Training Centre
Jurong Island, Singapore – Chemical Process
Technology Centre
Hassi Messaoud, Algeria – Petrofac Training Centre
Sakhalin Island, Russia – Sakhalin Technical Training Centre
Dammam, Saudi Arabia – Saudi Petroleum Services
Polytechnic Construction and Drilling Training Centre
Our technical training centres replicate the work environment
and use genuine, industry relevant equipment. Instead of
working with the kind of desktop equipment so often employed
in colleges, our delegates can gain experience of real-life
operations – without the risk associated with live process
and plant equipment.
As well as working closely with a number of accrediting bodies,
we nurture alliances with institutes of training expertise across
the world. Partnerships with the likes of the Southern Alberta
Institute of Technology (SAIT) in Calgary, Canada help to further
extend our geographic footprint and our ability to enhance
workforce capability.
Our global personnel comprises more than 500 skilled
professionals and support staff. Their work benefited over
56,000 individuals in 2011 alone. All of our highly experienced
technical trainers have industry backgrounds and work
within the quality assurance and ISO management standards
that support our programmes.
Accrediting bodies that we
either currently work with or have
previously worked with include:
City and Guilds
ILM
Edexcel
OPITO
SQA
NEBOSH
PAA/VQSET
IOSH
IADC
Alternatively, our experts can create training skids replicating
your assets to allow delegates to learn how to operate a plant
section in a safe environment. If your workforce development
needs are more significant and ongoing, we can design, build
and operate or upgrade an entire technical training facility on
your behalf.
diesel engines and gas turbines.
Electrical
Electrical training for technicians
responsible for the maintenance of
high voltage power generation and
distribution systems is delivered
through a comprehensive range of
specially developed learning events.
The training is also aimed at any
technicians in charge of motors,
control systems and other electrical
equipment specifically designed
for use in demanding onshore and
offshore environments.
Construction Skills
We have the capability and experience
of delivering a range of Construction
Skills related training. This includes
the disciplines of welding, pipefitting,
fabrication and steel erection,
scaffolding, rigging and lifting
operations, crane operations, fork
Our training caters for both
Control Room and Process
Operations areas. Training is
aimed at technicians responsible
for maintaining safe operations
and achieving production targets.
Operators normally responsible
for the control, monitoring
and shutdown of oil & gas
production – whether manually
or using computerised
distribution control systems –
are also included.
Safety
Petroleum Development Oman
Between 2006 and 2010, We were tasked with
training around 190 Petroleum Development
Oman personnel set to work on a new high
pressure and sour oil & gas field.
The technical training was required to meet UK
NVQ levels and cover the Electrical, Mechanical,
Instrumentation and Process disciplines, plus HSE,
Simulation, Telecommunications and Soft Skills.
We first developed the required materials
to deliver an NVQ systems and competence
programme underpinned by behavioural
safety training. We then managed this
training globally, providing:
NVQ3 level training at our Chemical Process
Technology Centre, Singapore
Team working development at our
UK training facilities
NVQ2 level training, also in the UK
Soft skills training in Muscat, Oman
The nature of the new oil field also required all 190
personnel to receive essential pre-commissioning
training and breathing apparatus training, making
it a unique training project for us.
