Why upgrade existing
incandescent exit signs ?
These signs operate 24/7

Use up to 90% less energy than
incandescent
Less bulb replacement and maintenance
costs (with up to a 10 year product life)
Improved sign visibility

LED Exit Signs

Only NEW signs meeting CSA Standard
C860 are eligible

Renovation market - $45/sign

T5 lighting

T5 high output - suitable for high ceiling
areas – 12 ft and up

T5s can be used in lower ceiling areas
where indirect light is required

What are advantages of T5 systems?

Slimmer lamp diameter allows for smaller luminaires,
higher design flexibility, and higher optical efficiency and
flexibility.

Both T5 and T5HO lamps keep a better lumen
maintenance level than T12 and most T8 lamps
Higher light output of T5HO allows reduced number of
luminaires per project.

As lamps per luminaire decreases, light control becomes
more efficient and flexible.
They are claimed to retain 95% of light output at 8,000
burning hours (40% of rated average life).

What are disadvantages of T5?
Potential glare sources
To reduce glare, manufacturers:
Mainly design indirect and direct/indirect
luminaires.

Use parabolic louvers, diffusers, and
metal mesh filters.

Decrease the visual size or solid angle of
high luminance light sources—limit
applications (e.g., high bay).

*T5 HO ballasts are not recommended for use in vapour-tight fixtures due to high heat build up.
*T5 HO ballasts are not recommended for use in vapour-tight fixtures due to high heat build up.

T5 vs T8

Perform a cost benefit analysis.

T5s offer a safety feature – instant start for lighting
after a power failure.

Consider product warranty
Fixtures, ballast & lamps have separate warranties
Use matching products, as components that fall under 1
manufacturer typically have a more extensive warranty
package.
