Convincing arguments 1. TALOS is the only parallel system which masters both daytime and nocturnal shipping equally well. This means a great deal of space and money can be saved because the standard division of daytime lines and night pigeonholes is no longer required. 2. The reason for this is the extreme mobility of TALOS and the variable assembly of the HIT trolleys. Therefore each TALOS can operate for 1 to 10 tours at night and during the day all tours as the day is longer than the night. 3. In daytime operation TALOS therefore works similarly to the familiar line operation, the main difference being that the goods drive to the package and not the package to the goods. This is much faster and a great deal safer. 4. With this procedure restocking and replenishing the goods can be completely dispensed which today takes about 30% of the overall time. This makes sense as in contrast to all other types of products press products are totally cleared out daily. 5. In fast mode the picker rides on the TALOS board directly into the incoming goods department, scans the bar code of the titles present and is told how many full bundles and loose copies he must stack on the 20 coded title sections of the four TALOS levels. He can load up to 200kg, although TALOS itself only weighs 50kg. 6. As there is no need for replenishing and intermediate storage as well as thanks to the minimal distance of 1.1m between the rows of trolleys TALOS is also ideal if space is restricted. A wholesaler with 1260 newspaper packages and 2500 to 3500 magazine packages daily must provide approx. 180sqm. In emergencies TALOS also operates in the parking lot. 6
