Land Classification hearings
The APA has a package of 91 parcels of
land that are to be classified or reclassified
depending on a variety of characteristics.
Of particular importance is a 17,000 acre
tract of land in Clinton Co known as the
Chazy tract. This tract is proposed to be
classified as Wild Forest which would allow
a snowmobile trail. It is important that
the snowmobile community comments
to the APA in support of the
proposed classification.
Written comments will be accepted
until March 19, 2010. Contact:
Trail Access
There is nothing new to report in reversing
the current prohibition of snowmobiles on
lands owned and managed by the Canal
Corporation.
Two clubs in the Eastern Division of National
Grid‟s New York organization have had their License applications either suspended from approval or revoked. One
club is losing access to the only fuel stops on its trail system. The reason given to the clubs is that the Company is reviewing
all their Licenses. This action appears to be in response to a lawsuit against the Company resulting from a
snowmobile fatal accident in 2007. At this point, no other club in the state has received anything similar from National
Grid. Inquiries to NG have not provided any other explanations as to why these two clubs were singled out.
Most recent contact from National Grid is that senior executive staff has approved continued use of the License procedure
with a review to determine if it is working as planned. A meeting with NYSSA is expected in the near future to review
the License procedure and determine if any changes are needed.
Third annual Adirondack Park Snowmobile Trail Conference
The third APSTC will be held on March 27th at the Indian Lake Theater. It is scheduled to start at approximately 9:30
and be over no later than 1 PM. Invited participants include DOT, DEC, APA, and possibly a speaker from an environmental
group.
There is no cost but pre-registration is needed from each person wanting to attend. Pre-registration deadline is March
20th. Register either by emailing or calling the Executive Director.
Coffee and Danish will be served.
Office Notes
The Office transition continues and it appears the new telephone system is working well. Use of the 518 number for the
office is being phased out so that anyone calling the office is using the 888 office number. A recording provides a menu
