Senior Mixed Touch Team
Congratulations to our mixed touch
team which won the Secondary Schools
National tournament held in Palmerston
North in December. The team won 8 out
of 8 games. The title is a fi rst for St
Peter’s in Touch!
In a well orchestrated build up led
purposefully by Head Coach, Crystal
Kaua and overseen by Touch Convenor
and Assistant Coach Leanne Walker,
these two women were quietly confi dent
heading into the tournament. After pre
tournament games against Macleans
College, Morrinsville, Trident and
Matamata, the development of the
team was evident and the ability and
cohesiveness of this squad of players
were strengthening by the week.
The team consisted of Kieran Parker and
Caitlin Finnegan-Ramanui (Co-captains),
Wharenui Hawera, Brittany Coates and
Chanelle Rata-Makene (current New
Zealand Under 17 representatives),

from the Principal
A very warm welcome to the 2011 school year.
As we celebrate our 75th year this year, we can refl ect on how one man’s dream has
developed since the School’s foundation in 1936.
On 22 February, we celebrate the actual day of the offi cial opening and this will be
marked at a full school assembly. Our offi cial celebration will be held over the weekend
11-13 March and details of this are available on our website, or via our Development
Manager, Di Baker.
We look forward to another successful year for our students and staff.

Mr Mark Plant, has accepted a position at St John’s College, Hamilton. We thank Mr
Plant for his 3 years service in Mathematics and extracurricular, and wish him well for

100% Pass rate for International
Baccalaureate (I.B.) Diploma
Students
The fi rst cohort of the International
Baccalaureate Diplomas sat their exams
in 2010. All 34 I.B. students gained
their I.B. Diplomas giving St Peter’s
School a 100% pass rate with their
fi rst group of I.B. students. This is an
outstanding result and we can all be
very proud.
Four students gained outstanding
results:
• Madeleine Foreman 42/45
• Thomas Libeau 41/45
• Timothy Lamusse 40/45
• Dijon Hoogeveen 40/45
These grades place them in the top
11.99% of I.B. students in the world.
The average grade at St Peter’s of 32.4
was particularly pleasing. The world
average was 30.73 and the world pass
rate was 80.59%.
Students tackled the challenging
two year Diploma programme with
enthusiasm and commitment. They
studied six subjects, completed a 4000
word extended essay, were involved in
over 150 hours of creativity, action and
service and completed a course in the
Theory of Knowledge.

NCEA and Scholarship
NCEA results are being collated and will be available early February.
Scholarship results are published mid-February.
100% Pass rate for Year 11 IGCSE Mathematics
We are delighted to advise of a 100% pass rate for the 52 candidates who sat the
University of Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics examinations in November, 2010. In total
we had:
1 A+ grade (90% - 100%) - Jimmy Huang with a mark of 93%
12 A grade (80% - 89%)
23 B grade (70% - 79%)
14 C grade (60% - 69%)
2 D grade (50% – 59%).
Marks ranged from 53% - 93%, with the median 74%. These results were by our B
and C sets and we congratulate the students and their teachers, Mr and Mrs Kennedy.
Total results for 2010 (May and November) were:
78 candidates
78 passes
and the median mark for this group was 78%.
10 A+ grade (80% - 89%)
24 A grade
28 B grade (70% - 79%)
14 C grade (60% - 69%)
2 D grade (50% – 59%).
All 78 candidates achieved University Entrance Numeracy.

Primary Northern Districts Tournament, Hamilton
Aidan Crayton was selected to represent Waikato Valley South Cricket Team in this
tournament, 29 – 30 November and 1 December
Matthew Whitley is also competing in this tournament as the Captain of the Hamilton
Junior Cricket Team.
Northern Districts (Junior – Under 15) Playoffs Tournament
The following students competed in the December tournament:
Henry Crayton – Captain of the 1st team, Waikato Valley South, and selected for
Northern Districts Under 16 Development team
In the 3rd placed Waikato Valley Plains team was Timothy Seifert, Nathan Tweedy
and Joshua Oakley, with Timothy selected for the Northern Districts Under 16 Premier
team.

1st XI Cricket Tour to Australia
In November last year 14 players and
coaching staff set out for a two week
tour of Queensland. The tour was
affected by the fl oods throughout the
state of Queensland but six games
were started resulting in four wins, a
loss and one match abandoned.
Special mention must go to the
three Year 13 players, Captain Jarrod
Mongston, Benjamin Kittlety and
Michael Young who all stood up and
performed well on their fi nal school
tour. A wonderful fi nal innings was
played by Captain Jarrod Mongston
who led the team superbly and scored a
century in his last match for the school.

Australian Open Junior Star!
Former student Jaden Grinter competed in the Australian Junior Open in Melbourne
after qualifying last week. He won his fi rst round match on Sunday, 23 January 6-3 6-2
beating world junior number 18 Dimirtri Bretting from Switzerland. Jaden, ranked 113
in the world, also won his fi rst round doubles match with partner Jeson Patrombon from
the Philippines. He lost in the second round.
Rowing
Over the school holidays a group of senior rowers returned to training early and competed
at the North Island Club Champs at Lake Karapiro. After some great racing the rowers
picked up the following medals:
Silver Club Men’s 4x (Matthew Dunham, Matthew Dawkins, Ashton Moorhead and
Alexander Mudford)
Silver Club Women’s 4+ (Jessica Ria, Georgia Perry, Kayla Jans, Emily Munro

It was the fi rst time that the boys had found themselves on the podium, so it was a great
way to start the new season of racing.
Waikato Senior Championships
The Team of 22 swimmers, 13 years
and over from the academy attended
the Waikato Senior Championships held
raced over 2 days in the Heat / Final
program in Hamilton on Friday, 14 and
Saturday, 15 January. The meet was part
of the swimmers preparation towards
the National Age Group Championships.
The team performed well with 42%
personal best times.
23 Gold
18 Silver
10 Bronze.
This meet was also the Waikato Trophy
meet and swimmers were eligible to
win trophies in most 100m events.
Unoffi cially the St Peter’s team claimed
7 trophies.
Waikato swimming held the New
Zealand Junior Time Trail after the fourth
session. Congratulations to Hannah
Blackwood who has qualifi ed for the 50m
Backstroke bringing our swimmers in
the New Zealand Junior Team to seven.
Junior Waikato Championships
The St Peter’s Junior Academy fi nished
their season with a big bang at Waikato
Junior Championships held on Saturday,
18 and Sunday, 19 December. 47 St
Peter’s juniors attended this meet. The
team had great personal best times.
Individual swimmers achieved National
standard swims. The relay performances
were taken away by the St Peter’s 12
years and under girls, who dominated
the fi eld in both Freestyle and Medley
relays.
The coaching team could not be more
proud of the junior squad.

Golf Academy
2011 is shaping up to be another great year at the Golf Academy. We ended the year
on a high note with our visiting Chinese students enjoying playing with some of our
academy students at ‘The Lakes’ Golf course in Pauanui and at Formosa, Auckland
Country Club. There were some great results over the Christmas period from some
of our Academy students.
A few of the outstanding performers were: Matthew Morris won the Under 15 2010
Steve Williams Foundation Junior Championship, played at Inglewood Golf Club and
Compton Pikari came 4th in the 2011 Danny Lee Springfi eld Open.
In the North Island Age Group Championship played at the Hamilton Golf Club:
• Troy Scott – 7th in the Under 19 Boys
• Compton Pikari – 6th in the Under 17’s
• Matthew Adams – 23rd
• Steven Kuggeleijn – 30th.
• Matthew Morris – 5th in the Under 15s
• Sam Vincent – 13th
• Thomas Coles – 15th.
We are running another of our very successful ‘Introduction to Golf’ course in Term
One. It is open to any St Peter’s school student who is interested in golf. This course
starts in week fi ve and runs for six weeks at the cost of $325. It is a great way for
the students to see if they like golf and want to progress and continue it to another
level. There are limited places.

Our Adult lessons are also very popular. The world class facility and top golf
professionals are not just for the students. If you want to have one on one lessons,
we offer fi ve lessons of 45 minute duration for $385. Spaces are still available.

Performing Arts – Term 1, 2011
The Performing Arts Faculty is well underway for the year.
‘My Fair Lady’ – School Production
The auditions have been completed and the cast list
confi rmed. Rehearsals begin in Week 2. There are still
opportunities for students to be involved in the Production
including backstage, lighting, hair and makeup. Students can
express their interest in joining these teams by seeing Mrs
McIntyre or Mrs McMurray. Students will be invited to join the
Production Orchestra by Musical Director Ms Brown.
Book your tickets early to avoid disappointment. A ticket
booking sheet was included in the information pack sent out
in December and it is also available on the website. You may fax, mail or return it to the
school reception or email your order to tickets@stpeters.school.nz You may also contact
Mrs McMurray, Performing Arts Administrator on (07) 827 9869. Remember, fi rst in best
seats and tickets are selling quickly!
Musical Tuition
The Performing Arts Faculty has 22 music tutors offering tuition in many instruments
(these are listed in the Information Book). We have 350 students signed up for
instrumental tuition for 2011, with places still places available for ALL instruments.
Forms can be obtained from Mrs McMurray, Performing Arts Administrator.
Cultural Groups
Information regarding signing up for Cultural Groups will be advertised through the
Daily Notices. The Information Book will give students/parents details about the
cultural groups available and a brief description. Dance Troupes – see the fl yer attached
regarding signing up for one of our four dance troupes.
Stars Concert
This event is on the calendar for Week 11. This is an opportunity for the students to
perform their talents in front of many of their peers. Entry forms will be available closer
to this event. Please note that this is an in-House event which is not open to the public/
parents.

STP Beatz Hip Hop Tuesdays 3:30pm-4:30pm
STP Beatz is a hip hop dance group where Y9-13 students will learn a series of exercises (including
arm combinations, floorwork, beat/rhythm exercises, footwork, isolations, amalgamations and a
dance) from the Broken Beat Hip Hop Syllabus and sit an examination in Term 3/4 of this year.
Revolutionize Wednesdays 3:30pm-4:30pm
Revolutionize is a fun Dance troupe that aims to provide Y7-8 students with the opportunity to
attend dance classes, learn dances, perform at school based events, and to choreograph some of
their own dances.
Diamonds Cheerleading Thursdays 3:30pm-4:30pm
The cheerleading squad learns American style cheerleading - arm motions, jump technique,
safe stunting, cheers, chants, tumbles and introduces basic dance elements needed to begin the
development of a well-rounded cheerleader. For Y9-13s.
Expressions Contemporary Thursdays 3:30pm-4:30pm
Expressions is a Contemporary Dance troupe for Y9-13 students. Classes include contemporary
dance technique and fun opportunities for creativity, alongside enhancing body awareness,
functional alignment, partnering, and safe dance practice.

will support this policy.
Year 9 Foundation Scholarships*
We offer up to four Scholarships to Year 9 students: for outstanding academic ability, for outstanding sporting
ability or for students with a special talent in the performing arts.
• Each Scholarship will initially be worth $4,000 - $5,000 p.a.
• Other scholarships may be awarded to the value of $1,000, $2,000, $3,000 p.a., or more at the Principal’s
discretion.
• To reward loyalty (and performance) scholarships may increase in value for each of the next two years (to
Year 11).
• Short-listed candidates will be interviewed by the Principal, Deputy Principal and Assistant Principal. Tests or
auditions may be required. These are held at St Peter’s School, Cambridge.

The St Peter’s Top Scholar Award (for current St Peter’s School Students only)*
One Scholarship for a Boarding or Day student, boy or girl, entering Year 13, worth $13,350 p.a.
(equivalent to full fees for a Day Student).

The award will go to a student demonstrating outstanding academic ability. The student will have achieved
an exceptional standard in Levels 1 and 2 of NCEA (grade average across all subjects 75-80+). The student
will enter for a full Level 3 course, including Scholarship examinations, with expectation of success. The
natural goal of this student will be to study at university.
Short-listed candidates may be interviewed by the Principal.

Alumni Scholarship
SCHOLARSHIPS FOR 2012
• Two scholarships, worth approximately $3,000 p.a. each are available to students in Years 11, 12 or 13. The
student’s Parent or Grandparent must be a St Peter’s School Alumni, Life Member.
• Preference will be given to a student who would not otherwise have the opportunity to attend
St Peter’s School, Cambridge.
• Applicants must show potential for positive development.
• Grandparent/Parent must give details of when they attended St Peter’s School, and when they became a life
member.

Linda Bragg Memorial Scholarships
• One full scholarship for a Year 7 student will be offered in 2012 (equivalent to full fees for a prep Day
Student).
• One scholarship, worth $6000 will be offered every year to a Year 9, 10, 11, 12 or 13 student.
• Other scholarships may be awarded to the value of $1,000, $2,000, $3,000 p.a. or more at the Principal’s
discretion.

The awards will go to students demonstrating skills beyond the ordinary in any sporting or cultural activity.
For example, it is likely that the successful students will have played for a representative team, or, will
have been selected to play in an orchestra or sing in a choir. The students should have a positive attitude
and sound work habits. The students will commit themselves to a standard of excellence in the chosen
extra-curricular activity or activities.
Short-listed candidates may be interviewed by the Principal and an interview panel. Auditions may also be
necessary (where appropriate).

General Scholarships*

• Decisions will be made, and applicants notified as soon as possible.
• All Scholarships are awarded for one year. The renewal of a scholarship is not automatic. The Principal will
initiate a review procedure each year.
