playerishandedatacticalroleonthepitchwhichisdocumentedassimplyaspossible,eachplayers<br />

performanceisthenmeasuredanddocumented.Wenger’scommunicationiskeptsimpleandconsistent<br />

focusingoncoachingpointsdeliveredinaninstructionalmanner.Wengerwilldeliverthisintheplayers<br />

ownlanguageasthiscanincreasetherapportandmotivationoftheplayer.Thestatusoftheplayerdoes<br />

notaffecthowdirectWengerisashedoesnotdeviatefromthisformulaashebelieveseveryteam<br />

membershouldbecoachedequally.MistakesarenotpunishedintrainingasWengerbelievesthisisonly<br />

Dailytrainingscheduleandlessonstructure<br />

<br />

Wengerrequireshisplayershisplayerstoundertakethefollowingdailyschedule:<br />

<br />

• Warmupsarelongfocusingongamessuchassoccertennis,Pilatesallexercisesarewatchedby<br />

fitnesstrainer.Thisthenmovedontostrengthtraining.<br />

• Strengthtrainingconsistsoftwoisometricsessionswhichareperformedinthenormalday,one<br />

beforeandoneaftereverynormaltrainingsession.Thesesessionsconsistofisometricsdivided<br />

intoheavyandlightmusclegroupsspecificforperformance,thefocusisonmobilityandstrength.<br />

Theseexercisestakeplaceintheweightroomandareoverseenfitnessspecialistbyuseofavideo<br />

system.Toperformtheseexercisemachinesshouldbeloadedtofulltoprovideresistanceinthe<br />

formmaximaleffort.20repetitionsareusedforheavymusclegroupsand12repsforlightmight<br />

musclegroups,eachrepisheldfortenseconds.Theseareusedasaformofinjuryrehabilitation<br />

orforstrengthtrainingwhenthereisanabilitytofocusoninjurypreventionasstressonthe<br />

jointsinminimisedduetolessrepsoftraditionalstrengthexercisesbeinguseful.Isometricsare<br />

alsousefulforolderplayerstomaintainstrengthduetodecreasingjointstabilitywhichcomes<br />

withanincreaseinage.Theseshouldbeperformedafterabasicstrengthprogramofsixweeks.<br />

• Playersthenmoveontotrainingwhichisnevermorethan90minutesinduration.Thesetraining<br />

sessionsaremadeupofavarietyoftrainingmethodswhichareaimedatimprovingonetactical<br />

ortechnicalthemethroughdifferentperiodsofthegameorinspecifictacticalsituations.<br />

• Efficiencyofgameplayisconstantlyimprovedwithtechniqueandcoordinationtrainingfocusing<br />

onminimisingmistakes.<br />

• WhenintroducingnewconceptsormethodstothegroupWengerwilldothisduringthefirsthalf<br />

ofthetrainingsessionswhenplayersarefreshandthemethodcanbeevaluatedproperly,ifit<br />
