Grants for Capacity Building, Management & Technical
Assistance lists 10,316 grants of $10,000 or more
with a total value of $2,036,189,847 made by
800 foundations, mostly in 2006 or 2007. It
covers grants to technical assistance and nonprofit
management providers. It also covers grants to other
agencies and organizations for capacity building,
operational, and management assistance including:
fundraising assistance, accounting, budgeting and
financial planning, strategic and long-range
planning, program planning and evaluation, legal
advice, developing marketing plans, leadership
development and staff training, hiring senior
management staff or outside consultants, and general
nonprofit management.
This publication is derived from the Foundation
Center’s grants database, which includes the
grants from more than 1,330 U.S. foundations
annually, including the largest foundations by total
giving and the top funders in every state. Many of
these foundations report their grants directly to the
Foundation Center ensuring the highest level

served. Additionally, a list of the top 15 grants by
highest grant dollar amount and a list of the top 25
foundations awarding grants in this subject area are
included with the statistics.
