with a total value of $2,036,189,847 made by
800 foundations, mostly in 2006 or 2007. It
This publication is derived from the Foundation
Center’s grants database, which includes the
grants from more than 1,330 U.S. foundations
annually, including the largest foundations by total
giving and the top funders in every state. Many of
these foundations report their grants directly to the
Foundation Center ensuring the highest level
of accuracy.
The grants listed in this publication are also
included in the Foundation Directory Online,
the Foundation Center’s comprehensive online
funding database, along with detailed
profiles of the foundations awarding the
grants, and timely information on
funder activities.
of the activity funded. Numeric references in the
indexes are to grant identification numbers, not
page numbers.
Section Two contains three indexes—a recipient
name index, a geographic index (arranged by
recipient state or country location); and a subject
index. Section Three is a list of foundations included
in this publication with contact information and
geographic limitations.
Statistical tables analyzing the grants in this
publication follow this introduction. These tables
provide information on the dollar amount and number
of grants according to the following breakdowns:
foundation name; recipient state or country;
primary subject; type of support (capital, general,
research, etc.); recipient type; and population group
served. Additionally, a list of the top 15 grants by
highest grant dollar amount and a list of the top 25
foundations awarding grants in this subject area are
included with the statistics.
