Kathu Mine Museum
พิพิธภัณฑ์เหมืองแร่
Phuket is the biggest island of Thailand. Peoples know
this island as a natural tourist attraction especially white sand
beaches and clear blue sea. Phuket is well developed with
full facilities for any kinds of tourism; international airport, 5
star hotels, discotheques, restaurants or shops. We could say
that Phuket is the tourist centre in the Andaman where easily
connect to other small nearby islands.
In the past, Phuket was a tin mining city centre. With its granite
mountainous topography and rich in tin which was given high price
in the world market, many people rushed to this island for mining
especially the Hokkiens from China, Singapore and Penang.
The Hokkiens had settled down in Phuket, exchanged
their cultures with the locals appeared in a very unique identity
showing in its Chinese-colonial architectural art style which its
influence came from Singapore and Penang where were the
Western colonial towns. They also keep their Chinese languages,
cultures and traditions such as ancestral spiritual offering
ceremony and practicing traditional Chinese vegetarianism
that is very famous and well known throughout the world. After
the declining golden time of tin mining, Phuket has been
developed for tourism because of its geographical island
features with long beautiful beaches on the western coast
and other small islands where are suitable for diving such as
Koh Raja, Koh He, Koh Kai, etc.
Nowadays, millions of tourists visit Phuket every year which
make Phuket the highest income city of the south. Though
area of Phuket is small, but it is fertile with eventually monsoon
rain all the year and rich in many kinds of plantations in the
northern part of the island; for example, rubbers, pineapples,
cashews, coconuts, etc. Fishery and aqua farms for food
supplies are able to be seen on the east coast and industrial supply
to manufactures nearby such as drying rubbers, seafood products,
however the main income is tourism.

Location
Phuket is a province in the southern
region of Thailand on the Andaman
coast in the Indian Ocean. It is located at
latitude 7° 8’ - 8° 15’ N
longitude 98° 15’ – 98° 40’ E.
The province consists of the
main island of Phuket which is the
biggest island of the country and other
32 small islands covering the area of
570 square kilometers. The widest
part of the island is about 21.3 kilometers
and the longest part is measured about
48.7 kilometers. Its boundaries are
To the north : Phra Straits connected to the
mainland by Sarasin and Thao Thepkasatree Bridges
To the south : Andaman Sea
To the east : Sea of Phang-nga
