DR<strong>IA</strong>COATER ®<br />

The DR<strong>IA</strong>OCATER ® is an extremely flexible installation for soft and<br />

hard sugar coating of all types of soft and hard centers as well as of<br />

temperature and pressure sensitive as well as hygroscopic materials.<br />

Examples: chocolate lentils, chewing gum, jellies, licorice, caramels,<br />

chocolate covered nuts and raisins, liquid filled and Mogul made<br />

centers, etc. The innovative design of the coater is reflected in the<br />

many DR<strong>IA</strong>M patents in Europe, America and Asia.<br />

Up to now there are more than 200 large capacity coating installations<br />

in operation worldwide. They are the result of thorough<br />

Process air handling in the DR<strong>IA</strong>COATER ®<br />

The polygonal drum has nine perforated sectors with air flow channels in<br />

lightweight construction mounted on the outside. The patented DR<strong>IA</strong>M air<br />

guidance through the air distributor and the air channels provides an efficient<br />

direct or reverse air flow. This principle of forcing the process air through the<br />

product bed which is only available in the DR<strong>IA</strong>COATER ® guarantees<br />

– highest possible drying capacity => maximum efficiency<br />

– absolutely even distribution of the process air => uniform evaporation<br />

Loading<br />

The loading hopper with its extendable loading chute<br />

is completely made of stainless steel AISI 304 and is<br />

mounted alongside the drum. The loading hopper<br />

holds the centers for the next batch before they are<br />

fed into the drum.<br />

Main drive<br />

The main drive consists of a motor equipped with<br />

either adjustable gear or frequency inverter for controlling<br />

the drum speed. Power transmission through<br />

triple chain with chain tensioner.<br />

Base frame / bearing<br />

The base frame is made of rectangular welded profiled<br />

steel, surface primed and treated with twocomponent<br />

lacquer.<br />

The front of the drum is supported by a semi-cardanic<br />

slewing rim ball bearing. At the rear of the drum a<br />

fully cardanic suspended slewing rim ball bearing<br />

permits free movement of the drum in all directions.<br />

Drum / spraying<br />

The perforated drum is mounted horizontally. The nine<br />

resp. twelve air channels for guiding the supply and<br />

exhaust air are integrated into the drum wall as<br />

reinforcing elements. The conical drum ends are<br />

double-walled. The coating drum is made of stainless<br />

steel AISI 304.<br />

A large flap along the cylindrical length of the drum<br />

allows for a rapid loading and unloading of batches.<br />

Baffles on all perforated sections of the drum actively<br />

support proper mixing.<br />

In the center, parallel to the axis of the drum, is the<br />

equipment for application of sugar solutions and<br />

powders.<br />

Discharge container<br />

The discharge container is attached to the base frame<br />

under the drum and is made of stainless steel AISI<br />

304; it serves as an intermediate storage container. A<br />

side tracking device is used to either bring a flat belt<br />

into position to convey the discharged product, or<br />

alternatively, the cleaning tub to collect the wash water.<br />
